Sure. I was going to charge my nimh glow ignitor battery here at work. But I found out that a formation charge requires 16 hours (and I only work an 8 hour shift). So when I take it home to start it, I will check the current on that too.

So what you are saying I should see is that (for example) a .5 amp setting would be a pulse of 1 amp, followed by an equal length pulse of zero amps yielding an average of .5 amps insetead of a constant .5 amps? Theory being that they use pulses beyond what you selected as a charge value?

I will investigate further.

While I am at it, check my math on this: If I am charging a 3300 nimh cell at .33 amps, that is 3300/1000 = 3.3. 3.3 /10 = .330 is a c/10 charge rate. Shouldn't this then take 10 hours to put the capacity back into it? The battery says 16 hours at that rate. I am confused there. If I am charging at 1/10th capacity, shouldn't it take 10 units of time (in my case hours) to reach capacity? Where did they get 16? Also, my charger doesn't do .33, I can either do .30 or .40, what would I expect for a time on either of those?

Ha, after reading the above, it looks like an evil math test word problem. But its open book/calculator, I don't want you getting it wrong. That battery cost me $7.00, I don't want to blow it up.

Your math is right. 3300/300 = 11 hours

A trickle or forming charge is usually figured as battery capacity divided by 10 plus 25%. It's not that critical. 14 to 16 hours is the general agreed time frame.

What calculations do you use to set the charging rates? I have the 969 and directions don't seem to charge the batteries all that well.
