Hi guys,

I just picked up a temp gun today specifically for the orion 28. I love the motor. I've already put close to a gallon without any problems at all. while doin some long runs, checked the temp and it varied from 270 to 290. Is this to high. I've never been able to check the temp until today. what should the temp be? I am also running 15/49 setup. I was doing willies but decided to richen and the willies stopped. i mostly run on dirt trails.

thnx

I would think it would be the same with all engines but you want to stay between 240 and 280 depending on your location and weather conditions. 260 is a good all the time temp.

270-290 on a big block is real hot. You might want to richen the HSN a bit, should be between 220-240. You can try running 30% see if that helps in the power.

appreciate the replies. i'll richn up and go from there. I've never used 30% gas maybe that'll be the ticket also.

nahh the wasp was made to burn up around 290-300. it wont hurt your engine to be hot, but being lean will. i always run mine at 290.

Yeah I'm down with that.... if I hear another tune for X degree post I'm gonna scream. DO NOT TUNE FOR TEMPERATURE UNLESS YOU HATE TO SEE YOUR ENGINE REACH IT'S INTENDED POTENTIAL. Manufacturers tell you this because it is easier than trying to teach you tune by ear (which really ISN'T hard). If it isn't bogging on the top-side at WOT or stuttering at throttle down, it isn't too lean. Plain and simple, these engines won't run right if they are too lean.

Leave you temp. gun at home.

My roommate's S25 was a DOG below 295. 220?? It is a blubbering pile down that low. Before I hear "it won't last" or something to that effect, it was pulled at 6 gallons with plenty of life left to make room for something bigger.

Yeah I'll agree with Frost here 220-240 is way too low...Mine motors hit 290 all the time and have had at least 6 gallons through them....300 is where I get concerned.

I have a power raced 27 which is the bomb and below 300 its a dog and a half. Normaly it gives me gear striping power at around 300 - 320f. When i first got a temp gun i panicked because i had it tuned yo perfection by ear, asnd since the testing proved that temps are a joke i dont even bother with them.

i learned everything from frost here, thanks again! my old s-25 crapped out after 4 gallons because my motor was lean. it ran around in the 280-290's which isnt hot, but it was lean so it pooped the motor out after just 4 gallons.
