Hey guys!

I finally got my DA-50!
Looks AWESOME!!!

Anyone who setup a DA-50 on this airplane, please give me some examples
on how to set up a throttle linkage...because the throttle arm is in the center of the firewall...
Please if you can post some pics!!!

Appreciate it very much!!!!

Bye!

I think that engine is a keeper too. I like the pattern on the wing, it should be very easy to see. You will need to mount the servo close to the carb, or run a long flexible nyrod to it from the wing tube area. I've seen both done and they work good.

No Good...

Thanks

Heres my progress...
Coming out really nice!!!
Installed the DA-50... It was pretty easy to install for my first giant scale!!!

The color scheme seems to be pretty good!!! Still have lots to trim and adjust with blue color especially

The two servos are for throttle and choke... im not using EDR-107...decided not to...
Buddies from the field recomended not to, insted put a choke switch. Should work.

Thats about it!

P.S. The tail is going to be like Jason Shulmans, i hope he doesn't mind.

Looks like you are realy coming along on the plane. It will be interesting to see how the DA does on this plane compared to the Taurus. Keep us posted. I like the colors too. I may end up putting a micro servo on the choke for mine.

Couple of questions for you guys:

I just got done gluing the bevels on the ailerons/wings. During drying, the right aileron warped a bit somehow - it is crowned up in the middle. Once the hinge pins are in, it may straighten it a bit, but I'm concerned not enough and may put strain on some of the hinges. Is this a big deal? Anything else I could try to straighten it out prior to hinging it to the wing? Will covering pull it back to straight?

Also, I'm going to throw this out here because it seems you all have way more experience than I do. I'm entering my 3rd year flying. I think I'm flying in the intermediate category. Last year I flew a Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle for a dozen or so flights before I lost control coming out of a hover and piled it into a bush. I blame that on getting too aggressive with the dual rates and lack of experience. I'm worried about flying the CA 27% Extra because of this, although when I go back to my US60, I get bored quick because of lack of throws. I'm also currently flying a Parkzone Typhoon which is teaching me a great deal. And finally, my question: I'm thinking about not flying the CA this year, or maybe toward the end of the season to gain experience before I pile drive a $1,500+ plane into the dirt. I'm thinking about getting a Lanier Stinger in the mean time to learn more on. What would you suggest? Is the Stinger too close to the Ultra Stick to do me any good? I can yank the Typhoon all around (I suck at 3D - still learning) with great confidence, but am scared sh!@#ss when it comes to the thinking about flying the CA. Am I over my head with this plane? What were your paths taken to get into a plane like the CA Extra? Thanks for any suggestions.

1st,
You can try soaking the aileron in hot water for a hour, then weighing it down on a flat surface with a 1/6" or 1/8" piece of balsa under each tip to counter the bow. Most of it should come out.
2nd,
Forgo the Stinger. I have a lot of time on a Stinger 120, Ultra Stick, and Ultra Hots. They all have similar flying qualities. If you want to practice some 3D, try a Funtana 90. I still use one to hone in my slow and low practice. They are very good performers and you can use a wide range of motors. I've used a Saito 150, and currently a YS 140. My buddy uses a Saito 180. Another one in the club uses a YS 120AC.

Just make sure every thing is right and use good hardware before you fly. The plane is very easy to fly and you may just want to stay on low rates for about 20 flights. This plane has no bad habbits.

Sorry I missed that Gleb.
Here are a couple of photos of how mine came out. I'm using a 3" rudder setup and the wires are crossed. I'm also using a SWB 3" offset arm on the rudder servo.

Steve,

How does that elevator set up work? Looks like down elevator wouldn't get as much throw as up. How long are the servo arms?

Thanks,
Lee

I'm using the SWB 1 1/4 arms. I'm still playing with the lengths to see what works the best, but you are right about the travel. I get a full 45* up and not as much down. I haven't been able to get out and do much flying to see how it 3d's yet, but pattern on low rates is very good. The plane flys very strait.

I'm confused and in need of help setting the wing root rib/anti rotation dowels.

Couple of questions here:

1.) The instructions say to sink a 1/2" dowel in the wing then drill that to place the anti rotation pins in. Is this necessary? Is this the way you guys are doing this?

2.) How do you figure out where to drill the anti rotation holes in the wing in relation to the holes already in the fuse?

Here's how I'm thinking about doing it:
- glue the root rib to the wings
- place wing on tube snug to fuse, set incidence
- once incidence is at 0, mark the anti rotation holes to be drilled through the root rib on the wing from inside the fuse through the existing anti rotation holes.

Is that going to work?

Thanks.
Bob

Thats how I did mine. I used tape on the leading edge to bottom of the fuse, and trailing edge to bottom of the fuse to hold the wing at 0 while I marked the anti-rotation point from the inside. I also cut the dowls 1 and 1/4 inches long instead of 1/2 inch so I have a lot of bite in the foam core. I leave 3/8 inch sticking out. Make sure you instal the wing a couple of times while the glue dries to make sure the dowls have the right angle. Once they are right, you can tack them with CA while the epoxy dries. Just make sure you don't glue them to the fuse. I use no wood in the foam core as a base and anyone else has iether.
