Status: offline 		You would realy enjoy building one of these. They are not hard to build at all. I would have all the plane built by now if I spent three to four hours a day on it.

Sounds like you got real lucky on that wing tip drag. Are you running a DA, BME, " " ", ?

I have built a foam core type plane with a hobby knife, hand saw, and a long sander before. Just takes a little more time.

Status: offline 		Got the rudder and fin cut and faced. Now I just need to work on the wings. My buddy wants me to use a set he has and doesn't need any more. Not sure If I'll build new ones yet.

Status: offline 		Finished up the stab and elevators and got the hard points in for the controle horns. Once I have the fin and stab glued to the fuse, I'll final cut the elevators for proper rudder throw.

Status: offline 		I'm thinking about getting one of these in the 31% size and putting the new 3W 80i in it. The fuse looks pretty simple to build, but my question is how to do the servo mounts? Are there already slots cut in the wing for them or does the builder have to do it?

Also, does it come with foam for leveling the elevators and wings for when you cut out the surfaces or how is that done?

If you have ever built a larger Lanier kit, they are very similar. The wings and tail section does come cradeled in the foam blocks, even though they are already sheeted. So you can cut strait and level on a ban saw. The servo mounts in the wings have to be cut out and rails glued in. It's not very tough. I just use the hole that goes through the wing for the servo extention as a guide for the cord and I put the servo about in the center of the aileron. I'll post some photos of the 31%er I built last winter.

Status: offline 		Thanks, I appreciate not only your input, but the pics to. This looks like a winner.

I thought of a few more questions:

1) Did you just use an x-acto knife to cut the servo bays in the wings or use something to cut the foam as well?

2) Are there bays for the elevator servos lazer cut into the fuse sides or do you have to cut them into the horizontal stab cores?

Oh, and 3) What engine did you put in your 31%?

(1) I do use an exacto knife to cut through the balsa sheeting once I have them marked. Then I heat up a brass or steel rod with a hand held torch to melt, and mold, the servo box. This makes the foam walls of the servo box very hard for gluing in the rails and helps keep the servo from moving around. (2) The servo bays in the stabs need to be cut out also using the same process. I'll post some photos of them also. (3) I used a 3W 75IUS on mine and it had more than enough verticle and I'm at 5600' above sea level. The 80 should be a monster!!

Status: offline 		guys the 31% ca was a very good plane. i had a husqvarna 81 on mine and added some hardwood rail to beef up the undercarriage and it came out at 22.5 #. i am thinking about the 34% as my next project. power with the 81 was about as good as the da 100 although about 2 # lighter with the husqvarna.

Status: offline 		Here are a couple of photos of the stabs and elevators on the 31%. You need to mark and cut out the sero box, then set the servo inside the box with an arm atached. Then you can run a strait edge down to mark the hard point on the elevator. With the 31%er, space is tight so I mounted mine sideways as the instructions showed. You just need to clear the stab tube!! I put mine against it.

Status: offline 		Got the wings leading edge and spar tube in. I always cap the end of the spar tube to keep the aluminum tube from cutting into the foam on the inside of the wings. For the hard points on the elevators on the 27%er I just insert a servo into the servo bay and put a pushrod down the elevators to mark the hard points. I'll use 3/8" balsa to face the leading edge of the aileron and 1/4" balsa to face the trailing edge of the wing for center hinging.

I'll be using Hitec 5645 servos all around except the throtle. I'll use a standard on that. There are two 5645's, one for each elevator. Two 5645's, one for each aileron. And one 5645 on the rudder, witch I may add another one if its not enough. I'll be using the new Taurus 52 engine. I'll post some pics of that as soon as I have it. I'll probably use 6v nicad batteries to start with and my go lithium Ion in the future. I'll have two for the reciever, in seperate channels, and one 4.8v for the ignition. I'll be using 1400ma batteries on the reciever and an 1100ma on the ignition. No hardware comes with the kit. You do get the landing gear, wheel pants, cowl, and canopy with the kit. I'll post some pics soon. Hope this helps.

Status: offline 		That was my setup on servos except a 705 on rudder and will be again. Will be curious to hear how the 5645 does on the rudder.

Glad to see you are going with the Taurus. That it what I plan on putting on mine as well. Read nothing but good about it. Wont be till close to spring before I can get one though

Personally I would stick with one RX batt. 1950 or 2700. Will save 5-7 oz. I use a 1050 on ign and 2700 on rx and can fly 6 times in a day and still have plenty of juice left.
With the brison on mine I had both batts near the rudder servo to ballance.
Keep up the good work Steve. Been enjoying the thread and cant wait to see the bull and install.
