I've always liked the looks of that H9. I know Lanier has a big one that will work for you. You can do a lot to lighten up their kits. I am still flying the 31% Staudacher. And the cost is reasonable, just a little extra work to lighten them up. They go on sale for cheeeeep some times too.

All 3 of the 38% CA Extras I have built had the same thing going on with the turtle deck. The fix is easy. Just glue the thing on and secure with masking tape pulled VERY tightly. The friction that the tape provides will allow you to pull both sides of the turtle deck flush with the fuse sides. For hatch attachment I use a single 1/4" nylon screw at the back of the hatch, access to the screw via a hole cut in the canopy along with the dowels up front.

Shawn, now that I think about it, that is what I did also.

Gleb, you need to trial fit the wings on the fuse and measure where you have a gap. You can then use a piece of balsa the same thickness as the gap to mark the root end of the wing for sanding. Just place the piece of balsa against the fuse and with the wing in place, mark the top of the wing. You need to do the top and bottom before you start sanding.

Let me add something here, What I discovered is that the wings are actually cut pretty darn close to fit against the fuse. If you trial fit both wings on the fuse and say on the right wing there is a gap at the leading edge most likley there will be a gap on the left wing trailing edge. Measure wing tip trailing edge to back of the fin on both sides. What this should tell you is that you need to adjust the position of the phenolic sleeve in the fuse. I always leave the phenolic in the fuse loose so everything can be adjusted. I will jig everything up and fit the wings, stabs and fin to the fise in one shot to make sure I get everything square. This usually takes me half the day but is worth the effort.

To level wings to fuse. First level the fuse at the hatch. Slide wings onto tube flush against the fuse and check that the wings are perpindicular to the fuse. This should be square as you checked this with the wing tube prior to gluing the fuse together once assembled. Once wing is slid onto the tube use a incidence meter on the wings to level them (keeping fuse level). If the root rib lines up then pull wing add glue to rib and slide back on (wax paper between root rib and fuse) check fuse level, check wing incidence meter, check wing square and secure. Let dry.

Steve I have the big Lanier in boxes just looking for a better one. If none then I will build it.

If you top hinge, the stock balsa is fine.
