Guys, Here are some pictures of my progress. This is my first gasser and I have been building it for more than a year now (Not much time, and sent the DA back for updates ). With the quality of the ARF´s now I think this will be my last kit. Too much work and in the end, it ended up costing a little more than a similar ARF. However this plane will be light. I think it will weight a little bit under 14 pounds
Before anybody asks why is not the engine inverted. I will post a picture later with the cowl on. It looks better this way with only the top cylinder fins sticking out the cowl than almost half of the cylinder head sticking out the bottom of the cowl. I cut the cowl very carefully and It looks nice.

The plane looks good. The main reason for mounting the engine inverted is latteral ballance. You just may need to add some extra weight to the left wing tip. When is the test fly date?

Steve,
I hope to test the plane in a couple of weeks. Regarding lateral balance, I will try to balance it with the ignition and radio batteries and hope I do not have to add much weight to the left wing tip.

I used the bolt through the wing tube. You can see it on post #72.

The holes for the wing tube are already in the foam cores. You just have to slide the phenolic tube in and glue it. The holes for the servo extentions are also in the wing core already and the wings are pre-sheeted also.

I installed the hard points for the wing screws to hold the wings on. I used 6/32 X 2" screws.

so would this screw goes through the metal tube that is HAND tapped?? or what is there to hold the screw in thread?

also the nylon bolt through the fuse then the wing. how would that hole in the wing be tapped? how big is the screw?

thanks a lot

XOON IF YOU CAN READ SPANISH OK MY ENGLISH IS VERY BAD

LA BLINT NUT VA PUESTA SOBRE UN BLOQUE DE MADERA Y ESTE VA PEGADO EN LA COSTILLA DE TERMINACIÓN DEL ALA.
LA FUERZA QUE HACE EL ALA HACIA AFUERA NO ES MUCHA, ESTE SISTEMA LO HE VISTO EN MUCHOS AVIONES Y ES PREFERIDO POR LA SENCILLES EN EL ARMADO. TAMBIEN HE ESCUCHADO QUE LOS TORNILLOS EN EL ALUMINIO DEL ALA, DESPUES DE UN TIEMPO TIENDEN A SOLTARSE....

Here are a few photos of my wing. I use the same dowl stock that is used for the hard points in the rudder, elevators, and alerons. I cut a short piece to glue to the topside, and a short piece to glue to the bottom side. The bottom hardpoint is tapped for the screw I use so no additional hardware is required and the tension of the screw will kind of clamp the tube in. I should have gone a little more to the wingtip and the end of the wing tube with the hole though. With the size of the wing tube I don't think I'll ever have a problem with a failure where I drilled the hole through the aluminum tube. This is the same system most kit manufacturers use.

lol i translated the spanish to english using an online translator... and i think you are sayin that the nuts will go through the root of the wing into a block of wood inside. and there are not much force pulling the wing out so not much is needed to keep the wing on while flying. and the nuts throught the tube method will over time tend to be free.

thanks a lot for the replies, i am still not sure of which method to go with. but i will certainly let you guys know of how it goes.

by the way, what would be the good servos for this plane?
im looking at....
HS-5745mg .speed .18, 208oz in at 4.8 v 69$
HS-5645mg speed .18, 164oz in at 6v 54$
HS-5945mg speed .13, 180oz in of torque at 6v 89$

these are the servos that im looking at.. trying to keep the cost down but also looking for the best that i can afford. any ideas? thanks again

EL TEMUCANO,
I don't use inches, I use degrees. I have mine set up for, alerons= 48* high rate and 25* low. The elevator is the same. The rudder is 38* high and 25* low rate. Hope this helps. I also use 30% expo on everything.

I kept the thrust angle that was already built into the plane. I will change it as I fly and see what needs to be done for inverted flight and uplines. The only re-inforcement I used was tri-stock on the inside of the engine box and I pinned the firewall in with 1/8 inch dowls.
