STEVE: "I kept the thrust angle that was already built into the plane. I will change it as I fly and see what needs to be done for inverted flight and uplines. "

I NEED TO PUT SOME MIX THROTTEL/ RUDER SOON I PUT MORE THRUST FOR THE ENGINE.

AND A 6% MIX TO KNIFE, ON RUDER/ELEVATOR.

Great thread, thanks guys.

I'm building my CA 27% right now, almost done with fuse.

Although not new to building kits, this is my first giant scale and first gasser. I'm sure I'll be asking many more questions with regards to equipment set up when the time comes, hope you don't mind.

I made a mistake with the floor/servo tray. I epoxied it to the bottom of the fuse rather than inside the fuse. How bad is this going to affect equipment installation you think?
(Lesson learned: never drink and build. I came home late one night from the neighbor's after one too many cocktails and thought it'd be a fine idea to get a little work done - I wasn't thinking, just gluing - oops.)

Also, Steve - I noticed that your gas (or smoke) lines wrap back around the wing tube - what's the purpose of having that much gas tubing?

Thanks.
Bob

Bob, You made me laugh pretty good. You must have had a heck of a time getting it to fit. You will have to make a new one now, or just run a new piece of ply across the center with a servo cutout in it. You will need to re-inforce the bottom on the forward and aft with some 1/4 by 1/4 birch if you do that.

I wrap the vent line around the wing tube to prevent the fuel, or smoke oil, from draining out on downlines or slow inverted flight. It can make a mess and take away from flight and smoke time. Feel free to add some photos. I know Gleb need some of the wing fitting process. But "NOT" if your looooped again .lol

I made myself laugh pretty good too the next day. I'll run some ply on the inside of the fuse and reinforce with something aittle harder than balsa for the rudder servo.

I'll post some pics soon.

Gleb,
Looks like you are almost ready to start covering. Keep up the good work.

Bob, glad to see you went with the Taurus for power. You are going to like that motor and it fits good too.

AndresAM, Let us know how the test flight goes.

Ok, I'm getting ready to test fly now and need to know what the best CG is. Where should I start at? It ballances right in the middle of the wing tube right now.

Steve - when you cut the ailerons out on your band saw, how did you do the left wing? For the right wing, I can see marking lines, taping the wing back into the shuck to make a flat surface to run through the band saw but can't figure out how to cut the ailerons out of the left wing. The wing shucks provide a flat surface to keep the wing level going through the band saw, but only for the right wing.

Thanks,
Bob

BTW, thanks for your PM about the sander - today I picked me up a Craftsman 4" belt/6" disc combo sander. Looks like that'll do the trick.

Bob,
What I do is reverse the blade. You have to flip it insideout and re-install it. Its not the best but it works good. You have to cut from the backside of the saw then.

You are going to use that sander on every model now. Its a good investment. I even use mine to trim up metal parts like bolts, brass tubing, and thin sheet.

captinjohn,
just check with www.aero-works.net or www.cactusaviation.com for their prices on the kits.

I got four flights on mine Saturday and every thing worked flawlessly. I didn't do any 3D stuf but all flights went very good.

The Taurus ran flawlessly. Lots of power and transition was great and very smooth . I think the 22x8 prop is the right one at my altitude. Great combo!!

Thanks Steve. That's the only thing I could come up with as well (turning the blade around) short of cutting by hand. It obviously worked for you so I think that's what I'll do.

And oh yeah, are you freaking nuts? All that white stuff around your plane and truck is know as snow, most always accompanied by cold. You guys have way more than we do - here in Michigan there is nearly no snow, just cold and too much wind. Gotta hand it to you - flying in those conditions is beyond my desires. Those skis are cool though.

Also, what CHM said - how'd that Taurus do?

It was not too bad outside Saturday. We had no wind at all the the temp was up around 45*. What I like about test flying in the snow is if some thing goes very wrong, it doesn't do much damage. Unless you pile drive it hard enough to hit the dirt underneath. The skies are custom built and work great.

Your motor is a Taurus, then why the YS stickers ??

The plane looks GREAT !! You will like it. I flew one that was nose heavy with a ZDZ 40 and it was fun !!

Stupid question here: The stab is asymetrical top from bottom - one side has more of a V shape. Which side goes down (faces the the bottom of the plane)?

I had the YS stickers lying around and they were a perfect match on the red. I put a Taurus sticker on the nose of the plane. Every one puts sponsor stickers on so I figured why not, though I am not sponsored by YS, but I do use them and like them also.

On the stabs, what I did is look at what side seems to taper up from the root to the tip more and put that side down. There is not much of a differance on mine and its hard to tell, but thats what I did.
