If you ever use a zero-turn, you'll never want to mow with anything else. I bought my first Z/T in '83. After 12 years, I replaced the engine. I ran it till Spring of this year.
After much research I replaced it with a Scag zero-turn http://www.scag.com/. My yard is about an acre and a quarter, and I can have it cut in 40 minutes. Jim

PErsonally I don't like Green as much...have you looked at Kubota?? They are very nice (famliy has 4 of them)

I have a Craftsman garden tractor and it works nice (I mow about 3.5 acres with it...including my own personal flying field!)

The thing with craftsman is that they are hit or miss..... there are good ones and lemons... it is the luck of the draw... I have a good one, neighbor had a lemon....

Zero turns are awesome, but they are just for mowing...
I can pull carts, plow, etc. etc. with mine

Nothing runs like a DEERE. I bought a used one about ten years ago, a model 110, 46 inch deck, 10 hp Kohler and used it up to three years ago. When I say used, I mean it was a 1972 model. I was mowing 4 acres with it, and as long as it was regularly greased, had gas and oil in it, it ran great. Finally wore the deck out. I went and bought a 20 hp Craftsman, new, and broke the transmission the first year, engine had a lifter that loved to stick, and all Sears wanted to do was sell me another one. Sold it, bought another J-D (GT235) and haven't looked back since. Have over 350 hours on it in two seasons, doesn't miss a beat. I've increased my property, mow over 5 acres, also help my elderly neighbor keep up his empty lot that sits between us. If it lasts half as long as the old 110, I'll be happy. Somebody can use it to mow my graveplot.

May I suggest a good look at any John Deer of your size?

My Club has a Scott -- built by John Deer -- and it will soon be 6 years old. It's a 48" deck. I have one just like it that will soon be 5 years old. These models are no longer available.

The Club's is used extensively for runway and pit area mowing -- about 3 acres. It performs about 40-45 complete mowings per year, plus occasional extra trimming. We fly all year here.

Mine has 2 acres to take care of however it mows only about 30 times a year. No short wheels here to worry about!

The engines use no oil, and with an occasional change of the belt and some blades, with normal oil/filter changes, maintenance has been almost nothing.

I see the JDs now at less money than the Scotts, and at less money.

Between mowing the flying field and my yard I get to keep about seven acres cut. In the past I have used a Cub Cadet and John Deere mower, but a couple of years ago I got a Kubota ZD 2160, zero turn. Going from a 48" regular style mower, to the 60" zero turn has cut my mowing time by more than half. To me the Kubota also has a much more comfortable sitting position.

depfife- That Kubota is a dandy. I came within an inch of buying one. Another advantage of a zero-turn is that it will keep edging time to a minimum. I keep the cemetary here mowed and trimming around headstones and the fence takes me half the time it took our contractor. Jim
