Status: offline 		Your weight is not too high, if you get it to 2lb. I checked mine, it;s 1lb 11oz with a 2200ma 3s, so there's a way to save weight. I use digital micro 20g 
metal gear servos, lighter than standards and strong enough. That's a nice job you did with the motor hatch!

The motor is from a previus helicopter and is Mega 15/3/3 1250 kv aprox 1000watts and will use 3s lipo battery. Probably to big but after reading that people have put a .46 ci motor to this plane, fore sure this motor should work.

Status: offline 		Not too big, mine is the same (see previous posts) except 1500kv. I ran 8x8E APC prop, now running a 9x7 wood Zinger. Goes about 88mph.

Status: offline 		With the 8x8 prop at WOT static, I pull 40 amps at 12volts, so 480 watt. That's with a 1500kv motor. Maybe Juan's motor is 1kw capable, but my guess it would need a bigger prop than I use to get there.

Status: offline 		Just saw your weight postings. Mine (with retracts) is 2 lb 8oz with 3S, 3 oz more with a 4S. It slows down pretty well (practice high!) for landing, but it's no Super Cub. It's much cooler to grease it in and use up 400' of tarmac!

I'm in the low 80's with the 8x8 APC on 3S (Power 10). Can't wait to get the radar and DX8 telemetry on it for this weekend!

If you're static, your prop is probably not biting very well. Static power says nothing, especially when you're spinning a high-pitch prop at high RPM. If you use telemetry, you see some really different numbers once you start moving down the runway.

I have elevons which is a great setup, lots of room in the fuse. However, I put it in the ground a few weeks ago, one of the aileron extensions disconnected leaving me with one control surface. The plane spiralled into a tree, bounced off, and hit into soft dirt. It was barely damaged, fixed with CA and packaging tape over the covering rips. Flew it again the next day.

I've been meaning to fly it with a GPS logger inside, might get a chance today

BTW I also agree about static testing, almost worthless with high pitch props, and even dangerous as far as motor loading. I only check for a second or two max.

Status: offline 		Thanks, I flew a test flight before logging, no trim needed, so went with the logger. It's a Transystem i-Blue 821, set to record every second. We have benchmarked various planes with the logger, radar and doppler. Results usually within 5mph. I go for the logger, I can do a speed test "one mistake high", doppler and radar work best when the plane is low and close.

Status: offline 		Finished the plane and experimenting with diferent props.

Mixed engine info and is mega 20/30/3 1260 kv using 3200 mha 3s lipo.

Have fallowing props and for sure don´t think will go up the 400 watts as seen in the two props already tried.

Aeronut 10x8 electric 36.5 amp 8730 rpm 355 watts, the voltages goes down from 11.6 to 9 volts at max throtle so probably loading the motor to much.

apc 10x10 eletric this prop has less prop area so it has similar measures as above: 40.5 amp 8250 rpm voltage goes down to.

apc 10x5 electric, 29 amps, 250 watts, 10,200 rpm seems more eficient,but not sure if this setup will give more speed.

apc 10x7 electric, 32.9 amp, 310 watts, 9600 rpm.

Voltages goes down in all props so my lipos probably getting old.

Status: offline 		I run a 3S 2200mah lipo, rated at 30c. No problem with 40amps, the battery should be capable of 30x2.2 or 66amp. If you are seeing such a drop in voltage, I agree that your battery is not very good, better get a new one, the plane will fly better too.

Status: offline 		Well,I have a 40 shrike also. I havn't flown yet. The building is really cloudy on structure and strength. I'm using a older o.s. 40 with a 10x6 prop 15% nitro and cooler plug. I have talked to someone at lanier and they said to start with this platform for the first timer.They said they have clocked it at level flight over 100 mph. I have viewed a shrike in action on RC DON.com,click on video forum and enjoy the on-board cam action. This site also has good imfo on other ideas as well. Thanks.

Status: offline 		Maiden my srike this wendsday with good and bad results

The good news is that this litle crash proof plane survived the beating I put it trough.
Did 4 flight 3 of them crashing the plane.
The first the ground got near the plane and crashed alining to the runaway for a speed measuring, 88 mph at 80 thhotle.

The second a pylon pole moved in between my aprouch for landing destroying the pvc pole and my plane surviving with a broken prop and a bruise in the wing.

The third NOTHING HAPPEN. I was lucky even to have a 2 flight and third. ! This plane is a Brick!

The fourth flight every thing OK except for the landing. A free spinning at the front and no gears for landings seems to me like trouble. The grass grabbed the prop flipping the plane with no major damage.

The bad news are that my pristine plane is not any more.

Need mor practice to slow this plane prior to landing, think that my cg was to upfront.

Loved the whistle sound this plane does as it cuts trough the air.

Think tha a fold back prop is the solution for this plane.

Status: offline 		Sorry for the news of damage, but it sounds repairable

No need for a folding prop, just use the hard brake setting on the ESC. I have no problem belly landing - the prop is motionless. If its within 45deg of horizontal I'll land, if not I go around. I currently use a Zinger wood prop, no problem with 8x8 APC either.

Thought of it but not sure if this worked since the prop stops at random. Probably more chances of it of not being straight down.
Any recomendation for slowing down, mine was landing real fast at the margin of loosing control, probably did.

For landing I sometimes flip the throttle if the prop is vertical, then if it's ok, land.

My plane might be more draggy than yours, but I fly a circuit at low throttle, then cut on final. It comes in quite fast and lands like a rock skipping on water, maybe 30mph. It's fairly easy because the sink rate is high so I land well above stall speed.

If I get a chance I'll do a video next week
