My Shrike was built light, and I usually fly with a 2200 3s, but I did try a 2200 4s. It flys fine but drops quicker with the 4s. It gained only a few MPH so I quit using it. (the 4s made it more tricky to hand launch too)

If your plane does not flare out, you might need to move the CG back a little. Test when inverted, if it pulls toward the ground it might be nose heavy.

Status: offline 		Today I went to the field and Tamed my SHRIKE.

The brake woked to perfection, this time no broken props. THANKS FOR THE TIP!

Used the 3s 2200 lipos and helped a lot in the wing loading. This time I could flare to landing.

Tried a tod a video but my old camera failed.

After 8 years of service is time to upgrade camera.

Status: offline 		wow... so i havent flown my shrike in what seems like 6 months or so... i got a pipe and header for it, but right around then, my engine decided to die on me... it was like a 20-25 year old magnum pro. so i finally said "screw it!"  and i picked up a brand spanking new O.S. .25 LA blue engine for it! it will probably be here in like a weeks time or so.  i cant wait! i lucked out, because the old engine quit on me before i got a chance to fully tune the pipe - so as long as the bolt pattern for the header lines up with the new O.S. engine, (ive been told it should) i will be able to tune the header to the new engine!

so its gonna be a long time before i get the chance to fly her again.... between school, and having to re-work the front end, and tune the pipe and all, im hoping ill have it flying at speeds well over 100 MPH in a month's time.

im so excited! my first ever brand new, OS engine!

Just search ebay for "lanier shrike" and it will pop them up if he has any kits. He alternates the 40 and 15 size.

I've bought several kits of different things including a Shrike 40 from here, and he's got a good dealer rating from me.

Status: offline 		got me a shrike a few weeks back,actually the one quikturn had,bought it from him and he went out of his way to find cheap shipping and packed the thing tight,thx.nice looking bird.after some prop testing and tuning of the pipe i have it screaming pretty good.hardest part of hand launching is holding the plane back till i am ready to launch.when i fly the other pilots land real quick.guess they dont want to get hit hehehe.anyhow just found another locally i might pick up and change to electric.also for this one,it has a screming os 40fsr.i have a webra speed 50 that pushed a delta type plane to 150,think that would be great for this shrike.and quikturn?think you underestimated the speed with the 40.my stryker is clocked at 117 with an airspeed meter,and the shrike will pull ahead of the stryker by about 20-30 mph now with the changes so figgure its doing 130+.had a buddy fly my stryker and i was at the sticks of the shrike.hoping i can hit 150,that will put it in the speed range of one of my strykers

Status: offline 		Finally found a Lanier Shrike 40 on ebay - it's now on the building board. My power arrangement will be a Webra 50 with performance pipe.
My question is, retracts. One of the guys at my flying field suggested eflight tricycle retracts, but they come in several sizes - 10 - 25, 25 - 40 and one for 6 size planes.
These look the least compkicated, but are pricey - $169 + shipping.
I'm not sure the 10 - 25 size retracts will be strong enough, but on the other hand, the 25 - 40 size might be both too heavy and more cumbersome. Has anyone done retracts on a 40 size Shrike, and what is your experience?
I did retracts a long time ago with a single retract servo, but that would be just waay too cumbersome.
Anyone wiht suggestions etc. will be grandly received.

Now I'm trying to go through the installation in my head.
Do your retracts all retract forward? Or just the front goes forward or rearward??
Did you need to make wheel locations for the wheels to retract to? I did this a long time ago with a 40-size P51 and made the wheel wells out of 1/64th ply. Did you do that?
Also, where did you mount the steering servo?
Just wondering if you could send along some pics?

Also, since the EFlight retracts are kinda pricey, I see some that look pretty similar on HobbyKing. Anyone have any experience with them?

Status: online 		The nose retracts rearward, the mains retract inward. There are wheel wells that I built in as I built the model (it was scratch). I usually make mine out of 1/16" balsa that I mold around a can, then trim to fit into the wing. The steering servo is located inside the nosewheel well, arranged so that it's beside the wheel when retracted. This makes for a straight travel for the pushrod. The nose door is closed by a string on the 35" one - the big one has a small servo to close it.

You get what you pay for! The only upgrade to the EFL ones that I would even think about are the Tamjet trunions for the bigger gear sizes.

Status: offline 		Its the .40 size Strykass , but it has the airfoil reduced about 40% and another amount the fuselage , I did reduce the nose also to fit a 2" spinner instead of 2-1/2" from original , everything thinking on speed of course .
