Hello everyone,

I'm looking into starting a new kit, and was looking at the Four-Star 60. Just have a few questions about this plane.

Q1: Does it have a single servo ailerons setup? Or is it a 2 servo setup?

Q2: I have a Satio 100, (that was on a ultra-stick that I lost last week) will that motor work well in it?

Q3: How is the construction of the plane? Any mods or fixes that need to be done?

Q4: How does it fly?

Thanks much,

James

Darklotus, mine is an ARF but I think the kit is much the same except being lighter and not tail-heavy. Each aileron has a wing mounted servo. The 100 would be perfect. I have a .91 Saito in mine, and it runs out of steam headed straight up. It flies very steady with no surprises. It's one of my planes I take out when I just want to relax.

1 It has two servos for the ailerons
2 yes the saito 100 will be fine
3 I added wheel pants from a venture 60 and a 60 size Klett tailwheel assembly can't remember changing or modifying anything else. Correction on that. The rudder and elevator servo pushrods are nylon in a tube. and they expanded and contracted so much during the temperatures changes during the day. the trim had to be changed as the weather changed. So i used 4-40 metal rods thru the stock outer tubes and got rid of that problem. any other questions just ask.
4It is an excellent flyer

James,

Had a four star as a second plane. I sheeted the leading edge with 1/16 because I just like the look better. Also sheeted the rear turtle deck and carved a balsa cowl. I like the four star just wanted to be a little different.

Kit is great without modifications however do change the pushrods. They really grow with the temp and it is fustrating to deal wiith the trim changes when temp changes. The temp change from morning to afternoon in the summer is about 1/3 my trim adjustment.

Just pull the plastic pushrods out and install Great Planes music wire pushrods. End of the growing problem and less chance for flutter. Worked for me.

Sweet! Can't wait to get this plane in my hanger. I'll do the push rods for sure. Thanks for all the help.

Just flew my dad's 4*60 today. Was a pleasure to fly something you didn't have to be right on top of. The ST 60 pulls it very well. No reason why a 90 to 100 four stroke would n't do as well or better. He had flown it maybe three times before pulling the carb off the ST 60 to put on a ST2500. The plane then sat for over two years! Took me 45 minutes of alcohol and windex to get the cigarette tar off it. Just wish he had broken in the motor as it tends to quit easily.

James,
I've done several 4 stars 60's and 120's. They are great as kitted, but the last one that I did (120) I modified by adding semi-eliptical wing tips, and did the tail feathers kinda-sorta like an extra 300 (bigger and lotsa throw) While it didn't turn the 120 into a 3-d plane, it sure did wake it up for aerobatics. It is still flying in the Nashville TN area. The pushrod suggestion is well worth the effort.

.90 size engine in a .60 size case. OS, ST and others make .90 size engines in .60 size cases.

A1: It's a kit... you can build it with 4 aileron servos if you wish.
A2: Saito 100 is IMHO too nice of an engine for the 4*60. Better save it for some hotdog aerobat that needs a lightweight powerhouse. Saito 65 up to Saito 91 would work just fine.
A3: "Needs to be done?", maybe reinforcing the main landing gear block.
A4: Like a 4*. That is to say, it flies just docile and forgiving as a sport low-wing entry-level aerobatic plane should.

I had a problem with my Tiger 60 and need to replace the low wing, preferrably with an ARF. Anyone you know might have one?

I have written Goldberg twice and NO response.

Thanks for any help.

The Sig Four Star 60 will fly well with a broad range of engines. Saito's 65, 80, 91, & 100. Os/Magnum 70/91.

As you can see, the Saito 100 will have a lot of unneeded power.

I used a OS 91 in mine. It performed very well.

Enjoy,

Jim
