Well here is a little video of a windy day at the field, sorry video isn't better. The wife was recording and watching our son so she couldn't get closer. We had gusts to over 30mph all day. Takeoffs are easy, landings can be hairy. Good thing the wind was straight down the runway. Enjoy..

I'm building one of these and I can't help wondering about the tail. Everybody says it builds tail-heavy. Does anyone know why Sig wants the tail sheeted? It would seem to me that a few ounces could be saved with no real loss of strength just by foregoing the sheeting. I've built a lot of planes....am I missing something here?

The sheeting is some of the strength. If you thickened the frame work to equal the sheeted thickness, you should be fine.

Well, I just couldn't bring myself to add all that extra lumber to the tail. I've built too many planes with open framework tailfeathers and never had a problem. If it comes apart in the air I'll post some pictures for everyone's amusement....

Anyway, here it is: Saito 100, Sullivan tail wheel, tank hatch (I always have trouble with tanks), metal pushrods, spruce stringers on the td, beefed lg mount, curved wingtips, extended rudder.

Cowl is for a Hangar 9 Frenzy. $8.99 from Horizon. I hacked off the bottom and stretched it a bit width-wise. I also had to build new (higher) fuse top formers to acomodate the new shape...but it was no big deal. It was already orange so I covered the plane with orange Ultracote. With all the gear in place except the 3 servos in the fuse and a 5 cell battery under the tank it's pretty nose-heavy. That's good as I'll be able to mount those servos back further.

http://www.fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com/catalog.htm

SK-29 $34 It is a Cap style cowl

The cheaper alternative is the cowl like the guy used in the orange 4* up above

I have a OS 75 2stroke in mine, perfect for it. straight up out of sight if you like doing that.
I would make the rudder about 1/2 inch longer if you want to do knife edges. The stock rudder is too short. When you look at the picture i have since put a figure and the conopy on.
Good luck
P.S. It's one of my favorite planes to fly,and i love it.
