Select a Pr. of servos for an 85" 47 ZDZ-80 powered -----I would like to use non-digital servos on this function ; but they must have the torque to hold the individual flap open in the event of a missed approach and the need to add POWER and go around while "fumbling to raise the flaps once I find the switch

Looked at your sight -----A OK+++++++ Un fortunately I have a radio that is not "readily" adaptive with Futaba plug, with out removing a tab on the connector. My current radio which I like is the JRXP9303 Tx. and the matching JR PCM Rx.

I was thinking there might be be a High Tech servo one of you all would recommend when using a comparable gas engine to the ZDZ 80-> used for Flaps<---My chief concern is that: under certain flight conditions, I have and could again, be in a a go around after a missed landing approach with full flaps still deployed and the throttle opened up after a missed approach before I can raise the flaps, with subsequent 'Blow back,'that would be considerable I believe-I

I've replaced metal and nylon gears in my Hi Tech 81 MG servos operating my one seventh scale P-47 Powered by an O.S. 120 4/C W/pump that appears in the War Bird Gallery here at War Birds dot..

i really don't see a big problem with blowback on those flaps. i would get 2 hitech, say 100 oz. "standard size" or better servo's for them , you'll be fine. even at full throttle you should be ok . i prefer to use the hole on the servo arm that is the nearest to the center. that way you'll get the max torque and a lot less risk of stripping gears. why don't you like digital servo's they are great . warbird_1

I will have digitals on all the flight controls probably JRs latest the JR8611A version . I will look into Hi Tech at 100 Inch Ounces for the flaps and use the "inner whole," thanks.

I use two 70 in ounce servos for each flap (tried to spread the load) in my 30 pound Wildcat with a Saito 450 (close to a G62). The Hitec 645 would do great. I try to use all the travel of the servo for what ever travel I need in the surface. Never works out that way but you get better resolution. I would think with that much power you would not put the pedal to the metal. Flaps will give lots of drag and lift and I just go at about 1/2 throttle on a go around with less power to weight than you have.

You are looking good Richard!

Carl

Carl,
I go to the site below:

http://www.morgantech.com/Servo%20Torque%20Caculator.htm

I normally want to be well bellow 70mph before deplying the flaps. But I want to be able to know they will come down reliably well above manuver speed (so I aim for 70mph).

sufrace max deflection is 45 to 50 degrees. I usually set the linkage up for 50 but only plan to use 45 degrees.

For servo throw think about this. Standard full throw is 60 degrees. on radios that allow 120 % of movement servo movement is 72 degrees. on those with 150% servo movement can be 90 degrees. This is very important in reducing the stress on the servo.

My IMP macchi ( my latest project) is set up for 45 degrees of flap movement, 90 degees of servo movement and that stalls the flap servos I have in it at about 73mph.

Joe
