I sppose that is a risk, I paid with PayPal. Only had to pay $110 plus hella shipping. But still...there would probably be a way to dispute something about the insurance and that he didn't pay. I bought the insurance and it registered on my reciept that I printed out.

Yup, I paid the same $110 but that was awhile ago before he inflated the shipping. I to paid by PayPal, but unfortunately you need to ship it to PayPal, so there goes another $45.00 so is it worth it? Only you will know!

I Think it took 8 days. I would have rather it not shown up, It would have been easier to deal with a return. I hope all goes well with yours.

Heres some of my fabulous experience with him, Have a look and make sure you check to see that you don't have the same issues that I had.

Hey, Dave

Besides Mormon Lake for ridge soaring, think about Meriam and Sheba craters, just up the hill a bit futher. I'm going to be at the CASL field this Sat morning at Coldwater Park...you ought to come down there with the glider. Actual grass to land on, what a treat. BTW, Coldwater Park is going away in a few months...sold to a developer, I suppose. Chico has another field lined up, but of course it's a longer drive.

I was trying to sell my Ebay 4 meter because I have so many other gliders taking up space, but I've decided to plug in a nice Hacker outrunner I won at the Arizona Electric Festival pilot raffle that should do the job nicely, so you may not have the only one in town.

Slope Meno,

When I got to the glider after landing, the servo was singing loudly, and the servo arm was frozen in place. (and still is) It is easier for me to pull the servo and replace it so I can fly saturday, than spend the time at night trying to put in a new set of gears. Besides, I burned up one of these last year (reversing wires trick to reverse the servo and let out all the magic smoke) so I have a set of gears, just not the time to play with the servo...

Also Mormon lake is about 2-1/2 hours from Phoenix, and if I go to Flagstaff without my wife, I think I would be sleeping on the patio on the cold concrete. If I ever get the opportunity to go up and fly up there, I will. One of the things I have always wanted to do was host a glider festival on the slopes of Snowbowl Ski Area in the summer time. Altitude about 8000' and a nice uphill breeze. Just have to get permission from the Ski Resort and the Indian tribe to do so.....

I took several pics of the outrunners as I assembled them and install them, and will try to get them posted tomorrow night.

Well, got the glider in and no damages by UPS thankfully. The vert stab is a bit crooked, but other than that looks great. Should start building on it soon.

hi guys, nice thread!

i just ordered one of these 2.652 Meters (104")
http://shop.lindinger.at/product_info.php?products_id=63601

that's the small brother (i guess ) but the wing tips resemble the large one. All the other "smaller" ones i've seen were with the "curled" up wing tip> is there a differance in flight characreristics with this tip setup?

thanks for any info,
Vasek

yeah, I'm looking forward to it. The servos came in today, had to spend more on them than I did the plane!

Going with:
HS-125MGs - Ailerons/Spoilers
HS-5245MG - Elevator
HS-322HD - Rudder
Standard something for the tow release.

I think I will be doing a pull/pull setup for the ele/rudder. I hate gold-n-rods and I have always liked pull/pull in my larger gassers. Hope to start on it tomorrow after I get some work done on my latest editing jobs.

While that one may be a little brother to this one, it does not look to be in the same class. It looks far better manufactured, and more scale. You probably won't find much good info here, as it does not look like it will have the same problems that this Chinese sailplane. I'm no expert on sailplanes, but my BF used to fly full scale ones. I believe from what he said the curled tips help the performance and try to cancel some drag at the tip, etc.

Hey ChixTrix,

Thanx for the info. However the plane i puchased is from China (CMPro) and i made a bad assumption as to the shape of the wingtips based on a bad pic (white on white )

So i checked & it does have the curled-up tips also. I'll be receiving it soon...

BTW the BIG one is NEXT on my list i saw a clip of it flying (loops&rolls) WOW what a gracious bird!!!!!

Cheers,
Vasek

P.S> MORE power to you! when i saw the pic of you & the plane i assumed you were holding it for your BF.... bad assumption again> i guess it's yours

well congrats on the little bird, hope that works out.

Yep, I've been flying for 6 years now, though I am somewhat new to gliders after flying giant scale gassers but they sure are fun.

Hi everyone,
I finnaly caught up reading all the pages of info in the discus. I reicived mine about 2 weeks ago in great shape. I promised myself i would finish the T28 im building before I start a new project. I think that is going to the wayside now after reading about the Discus. I found this forum after i bought it, i wish i would have found it before i bought even though i was going to buy it anyway. I was able to get alot of questions answered. Looks like i made a good purchase after all. I was worried about a to good to be true price and where it was coming from.

You get them on E-Bay. Around $110.00 is about what they go for. Shipping is $69.00. I read some of the horror storys from some guys in how they received theres. Mine came in real good shape. Copy and paste this address. He has them on there all the time.

I'd ask about shiping before bidding, this is a very big box, about as oversized as they get. Lebanon may cost a forture. But don't over bid, he'll have more listed, just keep trying.

T28c, you might have been the person I was bidding against. I got mine about the same time you did and paid $110.
I have installed all of the servos in mine except the spoilers. Working on getting a bellcrank in the tail now after I made the shim for the elevator, slowly but surely...

Could have been me. Wow do I really want to start mine. I have to get a few jobs done to get the money coming in to pay for the toys. Are you going to motorize yours? I'm not sure if i will or not. The only place to do any slope soaring is on vacation to the sand dunes in Mich. Not much in Illinois but corn feilds.

Has anyone found a way to free up the spoilers? I have one that works free and easy and the other is real stiff, specially at the outboard end.

No, I just admitted defeat. I glued them shut and Monocoated over them.
I set up the ailerons as spoilers. I had planned on using both methods, but I thought if they stuck now, they surely would later!

Did yours come with any instructions? Mine came with a useless book and it didn't have any suggested control thows. I downloaded the colored instruction sheet from someone else's post, but the throw information is too small to read.

Chris.

Chris,
I can read my copy of the colored instructions.
Aileron throw is 35mm. Rudder 70mm. Elevator 35mm.
How is your build going?
I haven't started yet.
I got a 1/4 scale retract from Icare to put in. Planning on tow hook for winch and tow release for aerotow.
I am really looking forward to getting started on this one.
Good luck,
Mike

Mike,

Thanks for the throw information.

I like some power so I can do several climbs if the lift is poor. I've got a Rimfire 50-65-30 outrunner, driving a 17x8 folder from a 6S 4000mah Lipoly. That with a 2000mah Rx battery adds up to about 2.5 lbs!

I'm working on the tail at the moment. I didn't realise the hor. stab was predrilled under the covering until I'd drilled new holes. They hadn't supplied any 3M screws so I had to re tap the mount to take #6 screws.

Another problem is supporting the rudder push rod. I'm using medium wt nyrod and only way was to push a couple of wads of foam rubber down into the fusalage to trap it. I haven't mounted the elevator servo yet.

I'm ready to start on the front, first cut off the nose, then work out where to put the firewall to mount that humongus motor. I hope I can get it all far enough forward so I don't have to add anymore weight.

It's really a pretty sorry example of a kit, but then it was only a third the price of a comparable European kit.

Chris.

Just a quick note. I flew my Discus yesterday and am still very happy with the plane. I flew for about 20 minutes at which point I just get tired and bring her down.
There was so much lift I didn't have to look for termals. Its too bad the spoilers won't work on your ships. I have never had an issue with mine. I use them all the time.
I had them deployed for a while yesterday to keep the glider from thermaling out of sight. I also use them on every landing to adjust my height on landing.
Still having a blast with mine. Not an everday flyer but I have a couple dozen flights on it.

Good luck.
Tom
