Hobbsy -> S&W Fuel (11/13/2005 8:39:38 PM)

I wanted to try some S&W fuel so I ordered 3 gallons, today I tried the High Rev 20% nitro fuel in my Saito .50. Here is a picture of the results using a Graupner 12x6 two blade prop. This is a very low time engine, I'd like to hear from others with similar rigs. On this fuel the engine is very quick to rev up and really smooth in the transition and at full throttle. The idle is smooth and sustainable at 2,400, below that it idles about 45 seconds and then quits. That's not the fuels fault though. Lets hear it.

Guess David didn't really want us to see how fast his FA-50 was running.

Here's the tach from the last post lightened and cropped, now you can read the numbers.

Bill.

What did all that oil do to the Polk berries behind the engine? Looks like a previous run or frost has already taken its toll?

That's about the same RPM as I get with my 56 with a 12-6 APC. The last time I used a tach was on my more used Saito 50. I was running 15% Rich's brew and a 11-6 APC and the engine was turning 11,200. With the same prop/fuel, my OS 48 did 11,000.

Enjoy,

Jim

Thanks Bill and Jim, as you can see by my leg shadows the sun was right behind me, I had to hold the tach and the camera in just the right spot so both would work. Jim, I had already fried the polkberries with the Saito 2.20. Wait till I put some Diesel exhaust on it. I may run my Saito .82 tomorrow with a 14x6 APC. I would like to hear from more guys with known props and nitro percentages.

My previous club used to buy bulk from Stan. I really liked the fuel and had zero problems attributable to the fuel.

Not only did I have zero problems, but I was very satisified with its performance and cost.

bdtsr -> RE: S&W Fuel (11/14/2005 1:30:09 AM)

Our LHS carries the S&W fuel and several club members I know buy bulk in 55 gallon drums. I've run it and it seemed ok. Never had any problems. My first fuel of choice is Mach 7 (Morgan's direct sell brand), second would be Morgan's Omega. If I had neither on hand I would surely use the S&W.

Hobbsy -> RE: S&W Fuel (11/28/2005 4:58:43 PM)

Today I ran my several year old Saito .56 on S&W 15% HighRev and a Graupner 12x6, once again the throttle response was instant and very smooth, I think a 12x7 would work best with this fuel and this engine.

Hobbsy -> RE: S&W Fuel (11/28/2005 6:28:37 PM)

Here it is with a 12x7 ProZinger. Is this too much of a load for the .56?

Saito engines are notorious for letting you know when they are too lean or over propped. But you knew that.

SaCCaL72 -> RE: S&W Fuel (11/28/2005 10:13:17 PM)

hobbsy,
I think S&W fuel is great. Stan is a nice guy and will mix anything up you ask him to at no extra cost. I normally stop by his house to pick my fuel up from him. I use his 30% Hi-Rev Heli Fuel (Synthetic) on my Saito 100 and it works great. Breaking the engine in I was getting about 10,300 - 10,600 with a 15x6 MA K-Series. His pricing is much cheaper than all of the LHS's in my area. I also use his 15% for my other engines. I have been trying other brands to compare and really I can't complain at all about S&W, it is cheaper and runs just the same or better in my engines. I hope this helps.

Hobbsy -> RE: S&W Fuel (11/28/2005 10:18:01 PM)

That's just it Ed, it didn't let me know anything, it just ran, I know they complain by making a secondary rattle sound. I could only get that sound by leaning it one click leaner than peak which was 9,280, I found a 12.5x6 Graupner to try tomorrow. If it makes 9,600 or so I'll be happy.

Hobbsy -> RE: S&W Fuel (11/28/2005 10:29:20 PM)

Steve, So far I'm impressed with it, I'm going to run it in my 2.20 next.

w8ye -> RE: S&W Fuel (11/29/2005 12:59:16 AM)

I liked the rpm with the 12-6

Hobbsy -> RE: S&W Fuel (11/29/2005 2:20:09 AM)

Jim, it made me a little nervous when it went to 11,400 rpm for a few seconds, however the engine sounded fine at that rpm. I had to open the HS needle a quarter of a turn at the lower rpm with the 12x7, otherwise it was too lean.
