It flew perty well with the lightened load. It doesnt like getting whipped to the side when its going full forward though. The top blades freak out if you do. And I was still a couple feet away from those fishermen though.

Thanks Freak!

Did you have to adjust your pot at all for tail trim?

Just a word of warning to all you lama flyers.
I have been flying mine outside today when I lost control due to a gust of wind.
In my fight againest the wind I gave the heli full power to try to regain control but unfortuely I crashed it into the ground.
On inspection of the heli no damage was apparent apart from the lower rotor blades were not turning.
On further inspection I have found the 4 in1 ecu has burnt out.
Proberly due to the rotor blades hitting the ground and stopping the drive motor instantly which would cause a short circuit and overload the ecu and burn out.
So my advise is if you think your going to crash the heli, try to bring the throttle to idle before impact and save the 4 in 1 ecu.
Happy flying.

my charger only gets warm, sometimes if I leave it on it's a bit hot, but I can always hold my hand on it... and my dad's lama flies great, he's already chopped the tip of one of his blades off, the other one doesn't look so good, but, he's getting better, he's already started flying down and hit the edge of the kitchen sink, nice'n'dandy crash, heli held up quite nicely, he also took a chunk out of his tail boom

Anyone try a Thunder Power pack for their Lama 2? I have been extremely happy with TP before and they make a 910 mah, 7.4 volt for $34. I haven't checked the dimensions yet but I will and I will report back.

BIGLILS: Why do you think I now fly on homebrew electronics? :P I was flying and didnt notice my TX was on empty. Long story short, lama freaked out and burnt one of the motor channels. I now have a spare 4-in-1 laying around just in case though. I ordered it before I figured out I could use some of my own electronics on this little beast. Ah well, spares always come in handy, and usually the rule is "It only breaks when you dont have a spare" .

thecheatscalc: Wanna talk about messed up blades? My treat.

Ive had my share of crashes, most houseplants over here now have an army issue haircut. Plus some marks on the ceiling, but hey, aslong as the blades only cost like a dollar a pop, I dont give a hoot about blowing one or two. Aslong as it keeps me a happy flyer...

minnzoo3: About the trim, With the origional 4-in-1 I had to yank it up all the way AND push the transmitter tab aswell to get it straight. With the new electronics I used, no trim needed whatsoever. Only the gain had to be adjusted because it had a nervous jiggle trying to overcorrect itself.

And the battery thing, By god man, 34 bucks for a lama pack? I use ELE 800mah packs and they run for around 16 dollars a pop. Theire still going strong after a whole season of frequent indoor flying on my taube rumpler sporting a geared sp300, plus some homeflying with the lama. :P They still hit the 800 mark on a 5C discharge.

OK Freak,

2 questions:

Where do you get your ELE packs from. I had never heard of them until you mentioned them. Looks like they are ELEModel packs? Is there a US distributor?

Can you give us a rundown of your electronics again please?

Thanks,

David

They deliver quick and properly. Excellent shop. I see they even dropped the price since last I checked. Theire now only 11 dollars!
And mind you, these are EXACT drop-in size for the lama. Theire completly the same size. Only flaw might be is that you cant charge them with the origional lama charger (nor pertymuch any other lipo of this size, so dont go blaming ELE. )

The electronics in my lama are as follows:
GWS PG-03 gyro.
Feda Helicopter ESC/Mixer board (Meant for micro helicopter with a separate tail motor)
GWS 4ch. Micro reciever.

All I did was strip the whole bunch and stick em together in a neat little package. For further info, look at the pics.

Thanks Freak. I may have to get a couple of those packs. How's the shipping?

On a separate note, has anyone really messed with that pot on the 4in1? Is that gyro gain or does it actually affect motor speed. I was looking close at the 4in1 and it looks like there may be another adjustment of some kind right below that pot, all the way at the bottom of the 4in1 maybe adjustable with a phillips head driver. My heading hold seems a little quirky. Sometimes it holds good, others swings left, others swings right.

Hello Sir

Could you tell me the exact electronics you put in your lama? I want to strip both my Lama's of the crap they came with from the factory, I new to all this but I cant stand the way the lama turns itself and I have tried all the fixes online, adjustments on the Pot, drilling wholes in the canopy, ect... I know the 4 in 1 is flawed, just looking to replace and it looks like you know what you are doing. How does it fly now for you?

minnzoo3: The pot thats available can be turned to adjust the centerpoint in a big way, so you can finetune it with the TX after that. The one at thats covered is a little fuzzy to me. I believe that one is actually the gain. (the one thats got a hole is called the proportional pot)

blinders: Dude, I just listed it. Read 3 posts up.
