Hi Rmenke

The control surface fences came in a small plastic bag.

I can trace them out and send them to you if you like.

The wing lines up pretty well in relation to the fuselage

I have a 3/16 gap on both sides.

Have not had time to work on it.

I have decided to install the Jett90lx

I know people are using the YS110 it is the same weight as the JEtt 27 ounces.

As far as the rails I have not shaved them yet but it looks like I will only have to do the sides only

The 90jett is 41mm wide crankcase so I will have to remove 3mm from each rail.

As far as alighnment with the nose it looks like it is going to be right on.

The Jett has the same bolt pattern and crankcase width as a Saito 100.

I think that with the battery in the tail this plane should balance nicely without any added weight

Keep me posted

Merry Christmas.

Rmenke :

I looked at the AC wooden engine rails and my plane also has the stiffner plate on the bottom, but it looks like when I will install the Jett 90 the prop shaft will come out dead center.

I have not installed it yet was waiting for the new Saito 1.25 to arrive to take measurements

The engine arrived today. It weighs less than a YS 110 and has the same power.

Even though it weighs 2.4 ounces less than the Jett I am still convinced that the Jett will be the better engine for the Alley Cat.

The Saito 125 is going in a World Models Midget Mustang.

Thanks for the thought of the control fences. Cearmark is sending me out some at no charge. I think the Jett 90 is the best bet for this airplane also, but am playing it safe for now. Both 50 and 90 are sitting with nothing to do, its just to easy to install the 50 for now. Stay in toutch and have a good one.

I also like Sato engines for mild flying, they are reliable and run well. For pure power I go with YS. I see the guys around Sacramento all flying YS 110s or so in their war bird races and they are making good speeds, claimed in the 150 range. I just do not like to wind up a 4 stroker to 14k and pray it will stay togeather. Some of the guys there are doing hop ups on the motors, so going fast in their area is becomming a science. Will be down for a while, got up this morning and took of shirt to shave. Wow, what are those big rashs all over my chest, and back. Doc says shingles, some mild form of herpies C. Wife suspects girlfriend gave me something, wish it were true as gettiln something might even be fun. Have a good Christdmas season friends.

THE basic concept of ARF airplanes is to get them into the air shortly after allowing a few hours of epoxy drying time and minimal assembly. You guys seem to be making a year long project out of this. Perhaps I should cancel my request for the Cermark beauty and scratch build one in the fraction of time it takes you to assemble an ARF! I can just imagine the problems you must have dealing with a glo plug replacement or the dreadful experience of changing propellors.
Am looking foreward to some comments of how well the plane flies. looking & looking, & looking, & loo.....
Happy New Year

twitcher,

sorry the Alley cat is not going together as fast as YOU would like, but I also had to tend to
Work, Family, Children, Christmas, and LIFE, something that I have, and you should get.

Happy New Year.

OPPPS....
Many apologizes! Sure didn't intend on offending anyone.
I have decided to cancel the Alley Cat and replace it with either a "Bummers Bullet" or a "Barbera Jane" F1 airplane that's available.
Sure wish you have fun with the Alley Cat when the assembly is completed and the epoxy has dried.
Happy New Year

Was going to climb your back and scratch, but, Strykass, Airnondas and Have Blue have done that. I am moving right along considering the circumstances. Came down with Shingles of all things, and am spending a lot of time in bed trying to relieve the pain associated with the stuff. Waking time is devoted to eating, more pain pills and some time with with AC, and keeping up with the gangs activities. I do enjoy all of you very much, you do not need to walk softly with me, friends should be able to take a little constgructive criticism without offence. The original quality of the AC is quite good, I dont want to rush it and screw it up considering the circumstances. As usual, in lifes winding roads, we open our mouth and stick foot in, amoung other distastefull nasty things. Hope you do not regret changing direction just because we are slow. Ok, now a new time and place and direction. Let us know what you get, a Bummers Bullet or Barbra Jane. Is there anything on these planes we can look at on the web? Now, you should know you have at least 4 guys looking directly at you to see if your walk is equal to your talk sort of thing. I am among them. Being full of the Chrismas spirit, and drugs, we will look forward to your project and your related progress reports. You will need to start a new thread to KISS. (Keep it simple). ENJOY ABOVE ALL THINGS

Sorry to hear that Shingles has knocked you off your feet.

I knew someone a while back who had a bout with shingles, and all I can remember, is how extremely painful he said it was.

I hope the painkillers you are taking are helping, in the mean time I managed to get the Jett 90LX engine in the Alley Cat.

The spinner came out dead center as I had hoped. The muffler extensions from Dubb came in handy.

Here are a few pics.

Hope you get well soon.

This is a outstanding example of stuffing, congrats, looks great. Now I know it can be done. Wow, the extensions needed to clear the cowl is going to change the way that motor wants to run, you will find out for better or worse. Ok Bob Brazil, Dub Jett, you can see the problem here. We need a extension that slopes toward the plug reducing the needed leingth to clear. The little tony extensions obviously dont cut it. Help, scream, **** etc. I have a YS 110 sitting in a UCD that is low time, but hate the thought of turning high rpm with these things. One advantage with the 4 styrokes, you can go down to your local plumbing shop and get the exhaust problem solved with a few elbows.

I am a day or two before going into the engine installation, want to glass the wing center section even though its not called for. Don't want to leave my wings at the turn with a real stupid look on my face. Ben there, done that!

Unfortunately the pain associated with shingles is nasty. Supposed to take 1-vicadon each 8 hours. I am down to each 5 hours and there is still about a hour of severe hirt. Am wondering where the "Golden Years" are when you retire and get old. Yea, getting old is not for sissies. Keep up the good work, hope you will be able to fly the thing in the near future. Will say a few words for you to the man for clear weather in your area and clear runways. Ya know, a clear runway with a foot or two of powder is not a bad environement. Best of luck to you on the first flight, keep us informed please, will do same. ENJOY

Wish I knew how I got this stuff. Doc tells me it is a virus that infects your nerve groups around your boddy, usually transferred with bodily fluids, can be from just toutching something a carrier has just toutched and then you scratch a itch and away you go. Wife joakingly claims mine is from my girlfriend that she never caught me with. Could be truth a few years back, but those tom cat days are behind me, darn. Figured a way to reduce the pain. Instead of taking the vicaden every eight hours as instructed, now take it ever four hours. Things seem to be going round and round a little, but no more hirting, moaning and groaning. Shingles can kill you from what I am told, but you have to screw up badly to do it. According to Doc, should all be downhill from now, another 4 days or so and things will get back to some normality. I don't dare try to do something of any difficulty on the Alley Cat right now. Would hate to screw it up. Currently a hours work string out to around 7-8, but its gettilng done. Hope you and family had a good Christmas, thanks for your concern.

Keep forgetting to tell you guys something that may be of mutual interest. After installing the elevator in the fuse, you are left with a square hole in the back about 1/2" square. Just not acceptable. Filled mine in with some soft balsa, a swipe of filler and then looked around for some white paint. After a bunch of trys, found some paint that is spon on. Its Aero Gloss, 64-1 simi gloss SWIFT WHITE. My glass center wing section has one coat of epoxie, looks good and final coat later tonight or tomarrow. Not much left to do on the AC. After seeing the muffler extensions needed for the 90L, am sure to first start with the Sports Jett 50 and see whats what. If nothing else, can give the 50 some tlc break in time still needed. A rear exhaust motor may end up being the way to go, or perhaps some cowell surgery. Its always something in the works, but thats why they make our dremmels! ENJOY

going to chime in here:

there are several threads relevant to the alley cat and i might as well choose this one to talk about my build. . . . . . .

here tis the lineup:

engine - ys110

servo lineup:

elevator - hitec hs625mg
rudder - hitec hs625mg
aielrons - hitec hs-225mg
throttle - hitec hs425bb

the air chamber of the ys110 will protrude behind the firewall so that the prop washer sits flush with the cowl - therefore, i will be cutting a hole into the firewall for the air chamber to clear.

another guy at our field did his alley cat with a ys110 and he thinks he is doing 140mph with it. his canopy blew off so he had to strengthen up the spring latch (the hole that it goes into needs to be beefed up since it is just wood that the pin sticks into) another guy who powered his alley cat with a webra 120 had the same thing happen. not sure why..... so i will strenthen mine up and also seal up the hole i am cutting in the firewall with a small ply box that protrudes to the rear - to keep oil out of the fusalage interior.

so far, i have the wing joined together and the fences are installed. my servos should arrive next week and i already have the ys110.

my goal is to have a plane that runs in the 130-140mph range.

oh yeah, i am planning to install a larger fuel tank (16oz tetra) so that i can have at most a 10 minute flight. as it now stands, the tank will be positioned as close to the c. of g. as possible.... and i will be making some modifications to the front of the servo tray (the part that holds the Rx and battery) to accomodate this. i will gain the benefit of a longer flight time and by having the tank near the c.o.g., the flight characteristics won't be changing too much as the fuel supply dwindles. i did this on my mustang and it worked out splendidly.

so then, don't run it up (to 14,000) like that
it'll be plenty fast.

out of curiosity, what prop were you guys planning to use with the jett90lx?

Strykaas: If I go with the Jett 90L I will run a apc 11x 8 to start with and maby go to a 11X 9, all on 15%. If I end up with the YS 110, am not sure where even to start. Think the clearance for the prop will be a problem right off. Perhaps some of the other guys out there flying this combo will give us a clue. I am not one of those guys that blow props and spinners off their YS, but I dont like to run them wide open either. Most 3D planes with the YS will hover just over 1/2 throttle with power to spare when you must power out of some dumb position you have gotten yourself into. Which engine way are you going bud?

rmenke,

(not sure whether a small portion of your post was directed at mine or not.... but here's a tad more on my plans...)

as i stated in my first post herein, another guy at our flying field has a ys110 in his. he uses a 12x9 APC on 50% nitro (yes, 50%) - and he doesn't mind sending his engine in for repairs. anyways, the prop cleared just fine.

the other guy who put a webra 120 in his was first using a 13x13N APC and it also had no clearance issues. i'm not sure what prop he is running now.

i expect to finish this plane in later january or early february... so i will post along as i go. my digi camera is broken so if i get it repaird, i can add pix (but don't hold me to that).

several more modifications i plan to do up-front:

1. use du-bro nylon pinned hinges instead of CA hinges
2. beef up firewall inside w/ t-stock or lite ply strips

(standard procedures on all my planes)

Gee thanks Twitcher;

Here are a few more pics of the shop .

I just finished the LR-1 ready to fly, just waiting for some small skis. The thickness of the ice on the lake we fly from, should be OK by next week.

Hope to get some flights happening.

On the bench, I also have a 1.50 Hangar 9 Mustang that will be powered by a Saito 220 and at the end of the shop, I am also working on the World Models Midget Mustang that will have a Saito 125 in the nose.

So many planes so little time.

Last day of the year,
wish you and your family a very Happy New Year.
