Status: offline 		What I did was to install the smoke tank where the fuel tank should go, and put the fuel tank right behind it. A few blocks of foam was all it needed to hold it in place (As I recall, I put a piece of foam on top - actually the bottom - and the bottom wing held it in place)

Would my 2 stroke have any problems getting fuel to it 3 inches back from the firewall? Also, where did you get the blocks of foam?

Status: offline 		It's hard to say. I was using a YS 91, so it had a pump, but you could always reverse the order.

As far as foam blocks go, I get them anywhere I can scavenge them from - packing crates, old pillows etc. As a last resort, if you ever had to BUY some, Fabric Stores carry huge sheets of foam

Status: offline 		Hey guys, just reading posts on your skybolts. I have one is process also and is coming along fine. The only problem so far was the front cabane wire.No way could I get -1 degree out of it. I had to rebend the wire,I seem to remember this problem brought up before.I bought the kit from a buddy for 80 bucks! It might be a few years old but all there. I bought a 120 os surpass for it. I'll have to get a hold of minn flyer as I would like to put smoke in it also. I have the gp christian eagle with smoke and it works awesome.It uses a mikuni fuel pump with cc pressure. I haven't tried an electric one yet.I'm also from minn. I fly out of the acrc field on hwy. 65 if you ever get up this way . Rick

$80! I need to have friends like yours. Matter of fact, I'm getting ready to install my cabanes in the next few days. Bought a butane torch just for this project. Makes soldering allot easier. Minn would be the best person to talk about for the smoke system. I've been test out my new electric pump and its pretty sweet. You can slave the flow rate to the throttle servo with a Computer TX. Hey since you are building the same aircraft post your progress on this thread. The more the merrier.

Status: offline 		Not much progress this week. I finally found a way to preheat the smoke oil using copper tubing before feeding it to the muffler. RC Don has this great site where he walks you through the process. I've been corresponding with him by email to get specifics. Very professional and knowledgeable.

Now that I have the smoke system designed in my head, I'm going to progress with the rest of the build. I'll just install it after I finish the fuse.

1. Installed the control surface servos. Hacked them out of a super decathlon that is taking up way to much space in the shop.

2. Soldered the elevator pushrods together. This way my first time using flux and man did it make a difference.

3. The servos are deluxe hitechs with about 55 oz of torque. I'm probably going to install them on all control surfaces. 55 oz won't be too much will it?

Status: offline 		Just bought the Hangar 9 4 in 1 incidence meter. The learning curve took about 10 min to overcome, but it is very accurate. I added a level on the top to cross check the initial calibration. It should be pretty handy when setting the control throws and gluing the stab and fin.

The cabane holder didn't quite seat on the cock pit floor so I shimmed some extra pieces of plywood in the gap and am pretty happy with the results. Just to make me feel better, I mixed some milled fiberglass in with the 30 min epoxy. That ain't coming out or apart. The digital incidence meter was a big help for the next step. As you can see I got the angle within 1/10th of a degree from -1. That's close enough! Now that I have the cabanes installed, I get to warm up my new butane torch and solder them together. I love it when a plane starts coming together.

Status: offline 		Well, I took the plunge and ordered my Skybolt yesterday. If you want one, you might want to act fast. I mentioned in this thread or another one that my LHS said that the kit was being discontinued, despite the fact that Tower still stocked it. Well, now Tower says "limited quantities."

I look forward to continuint the progress on here.
