Today, I saw a TV commercial for a McCain drink - a frozen smoothy, a guy steps on the kids balsa plane and busts it. This is almost as bad as the Becel commercial.
I'm going to take the lead shown by MAAC exec. member Richard Barlow on the Becel protest and send a protest email to McCain Foods, this is really sad and disrespectful of all modellers.

you can do the same McCain email

A nice sensible idea, for a change.

Now that you can purchase an ARF rather than "waste time" on constructive pursuits like building, there is suddenly more time for more worthy pursuits like swarming and ... well, this....

Seems to be some "leakage" here.

What could be more worthy than defending the sanctity of our dignity? Those McCain bozos don't know who they've stepped on.

Building, -- who does that?

We should be thankful that we have a board member like Mr. Barlow that take an active role in trying to stop this public bashing of the hobby. We don't see toy trains getting stepped on, we need to support the MAAC board in their efforts in stopping this pr hatchet job on our hobby. Contact your zone director and urge him to protest this commercial too.

These obvious slurs have no place here!

Apples and Oranges. I haven't seen the Becel commercial (have you?) but, I understand it represented our hobby as a a public hazard.
Now some may think this is not an issue, while others may think it is... Myself, I don't think this is not the kind of PR we want.

Wether you perceived the need or not, some did, Mr Barlow is taking action, not playing the armchair critic/sarcastic "wit" role many MAAC critic/waste of skin types do.

Personally. I rolled over and busted a gut laughing when I first saw it. And I still chuckle when I think about it. I mean, you don't really need someone to help bust your stuff up, as I do a pretty good of doing it by myself! I bet there isn't a builder here who hasn't messed up something they were working on. The fact that the kid didn't start bawling or backmouthing his Dad was a nice change.... but then, they were both kinda in shock......

Back in the winter, I was working on the tail group of a twin .25 A10, got the fins all carved, shaped, and sanded, just the way I wanted them, then left the whole kit-n-kaboodle sittin on the washer. Well, I was working on something else and the washer went into a spin cycle. The whole tail group got tossed off and ended up on the floor with a 3'x1' shelf board squarely landing on top. So much for those built-up fins, and airfoiled shape. The crunching sound was pretty cool though.

Speaking of shows and RC, the last episode of Orange County Choppers had the crew out in a nearby field at the shop firing off rockets and trying to get a trainer (Evolution) into the air.

It's nice to have 'hopes' but it appears the 'chuckle' is at Mr Barlow's expense. I have great respect for Richard and will not stand for criticism of his actions, especially from someone who hides behind a pseudonym.

I respect Richard and I think that he is entirely correct in his criticism of the gratuitously offensive Becel commercial, --- but the post about the McCain commercial is obviously a joke (that's how I took it), & I strongly suspect that Richard is not taking offence at it. The commercial is a joke in itself.

Yeah, I think we're taking this stuff too seriously.

As for Richard, he bought me supper a couple of weeks back when I was in Ottawa. We had a very nice evening yipping about airplanes. Can't beat that. We've disagreed on many issues, but always kept it in perspective and respectful. Ya gotta give Richard credit. You would be hard pressed to find a ZD who puts in as much time and effort as he does.

Thanks for the eats and the escape time Richard.

Hi Jim, I have never met Richard but I'm sure he's a fine fellow according to the posts in this thread. Nowhere in my post was Mr. Barlow, nor the 'Becel' issue ever mentioned so I'm not sure where you got the idea that I was taking a run at this fine gentleman. If Richard took it as such I apologize, but up to this point he has not personally indicated so, in this thread, by PM or by email to me directly.

As for the commercials, and the impact of them on our hobby, you are allowed your opinion as I am mine.

For the record, I feel the Becel one had some issues and the McCain one is just good
