Status: offline 		I have a Sr Telemaster and want to make a cradle to fit on top of my wing to piggy-back sailplanes up & release.
Does anyone know where I can find plans to make one?? Anybody had experiance using one??

This is my own design, and has been refined quite a bit since this article was written. Nonetheless, this article has the basics in it. We have several gliders at our field that fly off this system. The Sr. Telemaster is a great platform for this type of thing.

Responding to aerospot's question to a piggyback adapter, and the ideas of brownknows setup for the Sr. Tele. I just recently came across a Hobby Lobby Glider Launcher still in the package from a friend of mine. This was designed for the Telemaster 40 and Senior.
Price tag shows that it cost $29.90 back then. There is no date on it or the instructions. So best guess would be mid 70's. But the set up is similar to what Po Boys are using. If you would like a copy of the instructions and some templates of the parts, I can do tht much for you. We are planning on using this with are setup on a Sr Tele that is electric. What a great way to have fun. And yes we switch pilots to have fun gliding and driving.

Yea, I'd really appreciate some scans.
I know I've seen a strap on cradle design,..mabye from one of the club members.
I'd like to do some 'tuggin' this comming summer.

Status: offline 		Hmmm got some interest in this one. Working on putting a parts list together and some scans for you guys. Should have then posted this weekend. Looks and works very similar to the one that broownknows from the poboys page. Works on the same principle.

Have you got any ideas on how to make the wing support pieces adjustable to different types of gliders? I looked at you design on that and found the true uniqueness to it. Makes a whole lot of sense in the set up. DO you have a picture of a Riser or something of the 2-meter class sitting on top? Also would like to know if you have had any failures with this setup. Seems this would be very trouble free in the long run. I would be partial to the third servo setup. Loops on release would be to much of a heart stopper for me. looks nicer with a smooth release and separation. What other types of gliders have you guys launched off this setup?

Status: offline 		Simply amazing, wow! Technology really is impressive. The scanner took the full size of the cradle side. May have to extend the back side a little but here it is.
This sits on top of the wing as idicated by the cut line with balsa sheeting across the bottom. Then it sits on foam or rubber tape about an inch wide on both sides as shown in the previous post. The release pin is a rod that fits through a nose wheel steering block. This piece has a soldered on piece of brass tubing that is flattened on one end to make the servo pull. The nose wheel block is the release mechanism that the rubber bands fit into at the front of the cradle. Also there is a small bag of hardware to bolt all this down with. The piece across the bottom that the release and servo mounts to is a piece of 1/8 inch ply aprrox.
The glider wing should be parralell to the bottom of the carrier plane or slightly nose down one or two degrees. Trail and error will tell you where it needs to be.

Thought I recognized this old post. Here are some pics of my Hobby Lobby rig.
Tips Stiffen up the rear uprights.
1/2" cube block on the inside for each release wire to go through( holds 'em in place when retracted, makes repositioning each launch automatic)

Status: offline 		Per a request I am pulling this moldy dusty old postout.....oh and becuase its still fun to play with tugs and cradles!

I have found that additional down thrust in the engine is helpful. Also, if your radio will do it, a switched setting for more down elevator (in the TUG) when the glider is on the cradle. Of course NO input from the glider 'til it has been released. The glider should be trimmed for max glide as with all forms of launching. Good Lift to all and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Status: offline 		Piggy-Back launch is still my favorite. I've not flown much since my fly'in buddie went to the great hobby shop in the sky but have kept all my gear and planes. I'm waiting for a grandkid to push me back into action...
