As the excited new owner of one of your 90SP's I have some questions.

How much cooling air intake is needed? (I know - it's like asking "how high is up?".) What I'm trying to determine is if the nose scoop in my P-51 will bring in enough air. It has just under 1 sq in inlet area and I can direct almost all that up and over the cooling fins with a baffle. Exit area is no problem.

Is it possible to rig a remote needle valve assembly? It would be nice to have access to the needle valve in a less visible location.

Finally are there any scale outline drawings available for each specific engine rather than the generic outline on your web site? I plan most of my construction details using CAD. I can develop a scale drawing by directly measuring the engine if need be, but that's time taken away from other projects. "Tracing" a good outline would be a lot faster.

Thanks for any advice you have. I'm really looking forward to getting this neat engine airborne!

Tony

Hi Tony

I am delighted to hear you have purchased an RCV90SP.

With regard to cooling 1" would be the minimum air intake recommended. If you were able to direct all the airflow over the engine and had adequate exit holes, this may be enough.
I would recommend trying this initially. If the engine is overheating you will notice a decrease in power. Overheating will not harm an RCV engine due to its thermal characteristics, so trialling it would be the best option. If you haven't already you may want to take a look at the gallery section on the rcv website www.rcvengines.com/rcv_gallery.htm , which may give you further information.

In terms of full size plans, you can download these from the website. They are not 100% accurate as there may have been some slight modifications, but for planning purposes they should be perfect (the external dimensions should be accurate).
You will find these under www.rcvengines.com/downloads.htm

I hope this helps, if you have any more queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best regards
Laurenne

Laurenne,
I just bumped into this post, and your answer gave me an idea.

Would it be possible for RCV to publish those plan views of the engines in a .dxf format? That way, when Scale people are designing a new plane, they could incorporate the engine into their CAD program to check fit, etc.

Just a suggestion (and a request)

Thanks,

Bob

I'd sure second that. Tracing over the image takes time away from planning and building.

Great suggestion.

Tony
