ok. Thanks for the offer on your Telemaster. I could never fly someone's Brand New Baby. Maybe after the newness wares off. But thank you so much. I am looking out my window right now and the winds are almost Dead calm. The only thing is we can't fly until about noon(right when the winds kick up...lol) So ok. I might see you out there. Thanks for the tip on the d snap. I will get a larger cap card.

Most of you know I'm a fan of TrueR/C lipo packs for the STM. I visit his site quite often just to look and although they are curently sold out I think I may have found a new power set up for my bird. My TM kit was powered by a 5S2P 8000 mah pack which had good power and about 45 min of flight time with mixed flying. This pack sells for 165 bucks plus shipping. Well now he offers a 3S2P 8000 mah pack for 100 bucks. If I run these together that would give me a 6S4P 16000 mah pack right? I haven't measured to see if they will fit but I don't think I will have a problem. I would really like to go to the flying field for a few hours and not have to worry about running out of charge. Hell, maybe I'm overdoing things a bit as I never ran the 8k pack all the way down without getting tired of flying. Here is the link.

He is a terrific pilot Herm, I was not present when the picture was taken, so I have no idea why he is smirking

if you hook up the pack in series, you will have a 6s 8000 mah.. series you hook up the red lead of pack B to the black lead of pack A, the other two leftover leads are connected to the esc, this will double your voltage so it becomes a 6s, you can only discharge it at the max rating of each pack, that does not add up. Both packs can be charged in series as a 6s pack if they have the same charge level.. if each pack starts fully charged then they will track each other (usually) while being flown.

If your charger cant handle a 6s pack then connect the two packs in parallel (the packs will equalize in a hurry!, may even damage themselves if not at an equal state of charge), then they become a 3s 16000mah pack with double the current ability of the each pack, you could charge it at 16amps if you had a supercharger

With brushless motors it is always very important to keep the length of wire in a system as short as possible, not to prevent voltage drop or excess weight but to prevent damage to the esc.. this is even more critical in high power systems. The cables from the esc to the motor can be as long as you want, even 6ft if you want. Long input cables on the esc will produce voltage oscillations with high voltage spikes that will kill the esc quickly, maybe while you are vertically hovering at the 2nd or 3rd flight.

I forgot you can't have your cake and eat it to. If I wanted the 6S voltage and 16000 mah I would need two of these packs. Oh well.

then you could get a lawn chair, some drinks, a sun shade and fly for a couple of hours non-stop.. may want to take a bathroom break before you take off

I guess you would not have to worry about charging at the field or a batteries hatch, not a bad idea at all..

I don't have enough space or money for two of these packs. A 5S3P setup may be doable though. I think that would give me 12000 mah.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the link to the cheap lipos. Seems like the best deal going if they only had ample inventory.

Calixto, Butch,

I took two airplanes to the field this weekend and two airplanes came home. WOW, have a drink on me, it is a first.

Al

Keep it up Al, it sure beats coming home with less than all the planes you took to the field.

Al/Calixto and other: See my first inflight videos with the telemaster at: www.putfile.com/butchharrell

Enjoy

BTW, I found out that we have one of the lead developers for the US Government's aerial reconnisance work. He tells me that he will build me a RF camera setup much better, powerful than I can purchase for about the same price. He says the only limitation will be the transmitters power to control the plane and no blackouts, flashes, dark spots etc that you get with other and certainly with the little D-SNAP camera. I have three non eventful flights under my belt with the STM. I have not put the stuts on yet and this fellow that has one with all the camera gear in it, says that some of the squirrelly stuff I am seeing when mine is airborne is the wing flexing some, even with the 16 rubber bands on it. I think with the bolt down conversion that would go away, but soon I will put the struts on to make sure. Especially if I put a bunch of weight in it ie: camera. I think I might just purchase another for this project. My plans will be to put two camera in it, down link to video recorder. I have a money making venture in mind. I have a lake home not far from Atlanta. A neighboring lake community is very ritzy. There acutally a Ritz Carlton there, lot of fancy golfing communities etc. My plane is to put a Senior TM on floats, rig it up with camera, fly from my pontoon boats, record aerial views of fancy homes and the like and put on 4x6 post cards and see if I can market aerial shots of homes to these folks...they have plenty of cash and I have fun to boot. The idea is to edit the video frame by frame for the best shots and print 11x16 or something. I am looking to retire in about 8 years, so I am building me a mini income and fun too. Anyway, it is a plan/dream....

Take care guys, on holiday for next 4, chat with you all next week.

Butch

Yeah. I tried to watch your video on 3 different computers in my house and not a single one played your video or anything on putfile.com for that matter. I hate putfile.

Garrett: it has to be the codec that you have or don't have. My wifes computer would not play them either. Mine plays the fine and I have no idea what codecs I am using. A codec is something that allows you to view based on the compression used. I am sorry. I will figure out what is wrong with my other computer doing the same thing and let you know.
