Hello, Robert.

Besides the weight issues (I think an adhesive vinyl would really end up being too heavy ove an entire model), the coverings used may actually be stronger than what you are wondering about. Take a scrap piece of Mono Cote or Ulra Cote and try to tear it apart it's pretty tough. The vinyl stuff is much thicker, and would probably stretch quite a bit as well. The other thing I'm thinking, after applying some trim pieces over the years, is that an adhesive vinyl could be a nightmare to form and mold around compound curves, and the needed overlap would not make a nice neat seamless appearance like the Mono Cote type coverings. With Mono Cote you use the application of heat from the iron or hot air gun to help mold the material around comlex shapes. Hope this helps answer your question.

Mike,

Congrats on the flight.. I gotta get back to work on mine. I just gotta mount he power switches and cover... (I think)

Well after being sick with the flu and receiving the DVD I got back to work on the STM. I'm not that good and building anymore but Iwas pleased with how the Sperkote went on. I'm going to order a cutter so my edges are better, the one elevator I did has edges between .25 an .75 of an inch and not very straight but the birds not ment for a beauty contest any way so "se la vie".

Robert

Depending on your power system a .25 overlap is a good thing. If your going glow you really don't want the min overlap because you need the protection from the fuel. Being that I fly electric and covered my bird in clear covering I wanted my overlaps to be as small as possible because they show. I find a pack of simple straight edge razor blades works best for triming. Being that the STM is a square model I just lie the blade flat on the adjacent surface to use as a guide for cutting and get perfect edges....most of the time.

Has anybody thought about or put spoilers on one of these? I'm wondering about spoilers with flaps myself. Flaps helped... but still could use more slow down.

If your using the stock width stock for your flaps it's not enough to make that big a difference. I doubbled the width of both flaps and alerions and it works great.

You could try doing a side slip on landing approach. This takes some practice, but works well on a plane like the Telemaster. To side slip: at engine idle, with aileron, drop one wing a little (into the wind if there is a cross wind), then gradually apply opposite rudder to stop any turning tendency; the plane will descend rapidly with little or no gain in air speed. This can give you a shorter approach and use less runway on landings. We do it all the time in full-scale flying. And, whatever you do, GET THAT AIRPLANE SLOWED DOWN WHILE ON DOWNWIND! I teach at our field, and too many pilots fly the entire approach way too fast; then they come in high and fast, dive the plane at the runway, and now they've got just too much air speed. Most planes will fly very slow if we give them a chance. If you are afriad of a stall at low speed, then go up high and practice SLOW FLIGHT; you'll be amazed at how slow that plane will fly before stalling! Good Luck.

Dumorian,

Don't know if I mentioned it on the other thread, but I tried out spoilerons on mine, and they did a great job of bringing her down quickly with little change in attitude or forward speed.
