Got it Mike. Great idea, I was almost ready to tear the center section of both wing pannels to install 1/4" plywood planks to hold four nylon screws. Thank you.

Mike:

Good Luck for your first flight and for many flights afterward.

I can't wait to see how you mount a camera in the bomb bay. I figure that's next after you see how the big bird flies.

Actually I have the camera mount done. I'm not planning on installing the camera until the weekend to get some pictures. It's a tight fit in the forward part of the bomb bay because my digital camera is over 4 years old so it's HUGE. I will get some pictures of the mount up soon. Even with the camera installed I have enough room for other "stuff". I want to fly it today at the field without people around so that I can drop stuff.

Well the first flight was a success! I did however find that I need to make some changes to my set up and the stock landing gear leaves much to be desired. I took off work about an hour early and headed home to pick up the family and the bird. It's a very tight fit in my small car and the dog has now lost his spot to go to the field when I take the TM. I tell you it's much different packing when your flying electric as I only took my TX case and a flat tip screwdriver to fasten the wing and hatch down. We had a bit of wind today but nothing I couldn't handle with the TM. I had to add a bit of trim and lots of throw to the control surfaces to fight the wind today and the verdict is still out on the negative expo. I did get a chance to try the bomb bay which worked great but we lost the parachute guy even with half of his canopy cut away. Oh well, he was only .50 cents. Anyway I had a great time and got 15+ minutes of flight time and used just over 4000 mah of the pack. I plan on heading out this weekend with the camera in tow to try and get some pictures. I also learned that I need to learn how land a TM. This thing will NOT land at any speed above stall. Here are the pictures of the camera mount. I simply made a cradle to hold the weight of the camera and used a bolt through the ply reinforcement to hold it in position. I didn't trust the bolt to hold the weight of the camera so I built the cradle.

Mike:

Congrats:

Landings? Yep, thats just what I've been sayin. The bird just wants to float on and overshoot the runway. My big bird is going to fly at Death Valley airport this weekend. Might have to wire up some flaps in order to get this baby back on earth.

Al.

Spoilerons may work better than flaps to land. My TL should be ready for first flights next sunday, and I enlarged the rudder by 50% ,besides will program flaperons and spoilerons to see what works better. Will post pictures next week.

Yep, I meant spoilerons. It's too late for flaps.

Colixto, hurry up and finish that project, that way If everything goes well, next week we should be seeing lots of Telemaster pictures.

Good luck on your first flight, don't hit any ships in the canal, and don't get shot down.

Al

Hey Al: you are right, we do fly next to the Miraflores Locks in the Canal, and we do get complaints once in a while for flying too close to the locks, as a matter of fact, they will kick us out of our field pretty soon because of construction of the new set of locks that will be right trough our field.
I sure am looking forward to flying my TL, so will do my best to finish it by next weekend.

Well another day of great flying with the TM. I suspected and confirmed that during my first flight I was a bit on the nose heavy side. I added .5 oz of lead to the tail for a total of 1 oz and now she flies really nice. I tried my hand at AP today without much luck. I'm completely addicted to the bird and electric flight now. I got three solid 10 min flights and still had power in the pack. How much power I had left I will not know until it's done charging but I would not be surprised if I didn't have another flight in it. Flying the STM electrified is kind of cheating when talking about flight times. I would shut the motor off at altitude and just glide around for a few minutes. Well I could babel all day so I will end this. Check out my post in the AP section for the pictures.

After charging my pack I only used 5500 of my 8000 mah so tomorrow I'm pushing for 5 10 min flights. 50 minutes of flight time on one charge.....we will see!

AXI 4120/18 with a 14X10 E prop. It has plenty of power but will not climb vertical or anything. I don't have any trouble hauling around the 11.5 lb bird with the camera in the belly. I didn't get to push the pack/flight time today. There were simply to many people at the field to try 5 flights. I did manage just under 30 minutes of flight time though with power to spare. Still no success with the AP though. I may try straping my VSH camera to the top of the wing, then I know I will get some good video.

Flew the Telemaster yesterday, with a Magnum 91 RFS 25% nitro and a 15x5 singer prop, and it was awesome, it would climb out of sight at an 80 degree angle, there was a 10 mile wind, and it would land like helicopter, take of run was about 3 ft. When using flaperons or spoilerons, the ailerons were completely useless, had to turn with ruder. I got some pictures, but don`t know how to post them.

I flew both Telemasters this past weekend at Death Valley National Park. I intended to fly my twin engine Transall, C160, however I got kicked off the airport before I even got the plane out of my SUV. The Telemasters are quite the plane for flying off any surface, nothing stops them. I tried flying it from the dirt area behind our campsite, however, when the rangers saw the bird in the air they quickly rushed over to stop me. Let me tell ya, my wife is yelling, the rangers are coming and I can't land the plane. We all know the Telemaster. It won't land on command, it sails like a glider. Finally got it on the ground between some dead trees and walked away with a warning. I had no idea that it's against the law to fly RC in a National Park, even electric.

We didn't give up after the ranger warning, we went down the road to one of the scenic spots and flew the Junion Telemaster from the paved access road. Had to watch for cars, but, we were determined to fly. The Junion Telemaster is the plane to have fun with. The smaller version will loop from level flight, take off in 20 feet, and land just as short. I don't have any ownership interest in Hobby Lobby, but, take a look at their electric set up, It works perfect.

Can't wait to see some in flight videos, keep posting.

Al, program spoilerons on your Sr. Telemaster, and you will not have any problem landing it anywhere, you will loose aileron control when you apply spoilers, but it responds fine to rudder (if you notice in the pictures I posted, I allmost doubled the rudder area)
Calixto
In Panama we hava no rangers.

disable the prop brake on the esc, then dive the plane to the ground.. the free wheeling prop will drag away your energy and you will be able to land in very tight spaces.. no need for spoilerons..

That will work for Mike, not for me, I have a Magnum 91 for power on my TL. I do believe it will be better for electrics because you don`t loose aileron control.

Mike, Calixto, Herm,

The telemaster lands good into the wind, on a calm day, nothing helps. The free wheeling prop doesn't help, you just have to stand there and watch as the plane sails on by for another 200 feet before touching down.

I think you guys are flying the Telemaster full kit, and your planes probably weigh more than the ARF. The ARF does not use solid balsa for the sides, the ARF is basically a frame enclosed with shrink wrap.

I will take a closer look at your rudder Calixto and see if mine can be easily modified. You guys take a look at the Telemaster Electro, this plane is really fun to fly and it has flaps installed if you want that option. You merely cut away some covering and install additional servos.

You may be right Al, sunday was a very windy day, but the Telemaster does sink and slows down a lot faster with the spoilers
deployed because it asumes a nose high attitud that produces a lot of drag. By the way mine is an ARF, I just modified the ruder
and the wing attachment to do away with the elastics.

I'm at the office now, so I can't re-read all the prior posts to see if your pictures show the mods. I'm the boss, but I still get yelled at by my employee if she sees me doing personal stuff.

Tonight I will re-read the posts and pictures, I would love to see the conversions on wing joining and rudder enlargement. I hate those elastics and that procedure has to change quickly. Man, it hurts when they snap during installation.
