Great job Al, the in flight video looks great. How tough is it to get the packing tape off the wing covering and keep the covering intact ! Thanks for sharing the video.

Butch, I see that Greg got all your doubts cleared, just be carefull with the monster you have in the nose of your Telemaster, you will have to do a lot of throtle management, otherwise your aiplane may desintegrate in mid air.

Calixto,

You can't hear the sound on the ground, even with the motor running up, I'm trying to figure it out. The only thing I can think of is the wind. The wind was blowing 10 MPH on the ground and all indications were that it was much more in the air. I was the only person that had the balls to fly in the afternoon. Not the complete truth, a kid did fly his foam flying wing. The Telemaster seems to be a great photo plane, it's stable in the winds aloft, it can fly both slow and fast, and the aerodynamics are not affected by the camera.

flyifr,

The packing tape comes off without a residu, however, it will try to pull off a decal. It doesn't take much tape to hold the camera, the camera is light and it is flat, two strips 6 inches long.

Three of my planes flew Saturday, and two came back in one piece. Sunday was a better day, two planes flew Sunday, two planes came home in one piece.

I just bought a second camera on Ebay for a, buy it now, price of $139.00. Since this project worked so well, I am going to try some in flight videos of other planes. The Telemaster can fly slow enough to get some really good shots. THERE IS A NEGATIVE FOR THE CAMERA, IT'S NOT PERFECT. The camera takes its video in Apple Mpeg-4, (quicktime). I had a heck of a time converting the video to Microsoft WMA so that it could be compacted for upload to Putfile.

More to come

The difference between the SV-AV25 and the SV-AV100 evidently is the definition, I remember the video we took with the 100 and you could see the grass in detail, but for the price, I would go with the 25 the video is good enogh for the purpose and the SV-AV100 cost over $600, keep those videos coming Al.

Calixto,

Are we having fun yet?

The Telemaster flew great, however, one plane did not come back in the same shape as it left.

Re: The Camera. We have to remember one thing about Southern California, if the pictures are clear and you can see the mountains, it's very windy. On a still day we have low clouds, haze, and some SMOG. The ocean also has some influence and we get morning scud most days. The camera has 3X digital zoom, I am setting it for 2X for the next flight and we will see if the pictures have more detail. In order to move up to the Panasonic 100, I would have to stop drinking for a few months in order to justify the extra cost. That's not going to happen, so the 25 will stay as the official camera. LOL

Calixto,

It was a modified Polk, C47, number 2. Number 1 is still flying, however, number 2 always had a problem..These kits are sold by Polk and come with tiny 400 electric motors. The plane was a joke, it could never leave the ground. I converted it to outrunners, two Axi 2820 motors and lots of cheap lipos from Fmadirect. I finally got this bird to fly perfectly, and Saturday was the day to show off. Everything went perfect on a windy day, that is until someone else declared an emergency. I had to do a go around in the C47, so I decided to keep it slow. After all I was going to land it, so I thought why spool it up only to shut it down upon landing. I stalled it while turning downwind, and it nosed in to the dirt from 100 feet. I laughed, but, some of the other onlookers are on fixed income and the dollar cost of the loss really bothered them. The loss was 100 bucks, the motors survived along with the batteries, controllers, servos, wires, hardware, wheels, and styro that shielded the batteries.

I got away cheap, here in California dinner and wine costs 100 bucks in a nice restaurant. So, I crashed the plane and my wife made dinner. The wine was 7 bucks a bottle and I don't share. The laughs at the airport the next day were well worth the 100 bucks, and the old retired guys laughed until there chests hurt. Since I am still employed I feel that it's my job to entertain the retired guys on fixed income. LOL

Good story Al. I crashed my Telemaster in exactly the same way last monday, but I was only about 12 feet high, it is allready fixed and will fly next week end. Dinner in the best restaurant in Panama, with wine included is less than $75.00 and you can have dinner in a nice restaurant with a bottle of good California Chilean or Argentinean wine for less than $50.00 and that is for two people in either restaurant. So your loss would have been two dinners worth in my country. After the crash last monday I invited four guys from our Club for dinner and drinks, we had dinner with a bottle of wine and drank rum and cokes afterwards from 4PM trough 9PM, and the bill was $130.00 hows that for a cheap country to live inn?

Heck, it sounds like it's a good group you have there in Panama. That what this hobby is all about, flying, crashing, wine, celebrating, bragging, men only. Ooooops, what did I say?

Mike,

The video and the link is working tonight. Sometimes Putfile gets busy and the links won't work.

Al, you have some real fun with your Rc'ing, glad to hear it. I take the same basis attitude, it is only a hobby, go loose a dozen good golf balls, rent a cart, pay the fees and you have another plane ! Thanks for the info on the tape and the camera. I have a bid on one on ebay as well, used and unless something changes will pick it up for under $100. Maybe I can get my TM out one afternoon this week to fly. Tough to finish a plane and look at it for a week and not test fly it. Take care guys...next peep out of me will be the Hemi Saito 180 and TM flight report.
