Good morning Mike,

I found the Metal enclosures in the Mouser Electronics catalog on page 1564. If the one you have (1455c801)does not have enough volume 3.15x2.13x0.91, you could order the 1455k120. At 4.72x3.07x1.69 it might a little too long but you could trim the length to suit you volume requirements. I will have to visit them so see what they look like. I would go for the clear anodized myself. I don't have any welding equipment, so I will have to check my area for welders. Might wind up costing more than buying a ready made.

George

oldtimer, Took the part number off the package. the holes drilled for exit exhaust are .5" OD. I really do not need muffler just more of a deflector. I'm on the lookout for some .5" ID hose with a middle layer of woven reinforcement. Thinking I could score outer layer down to fiber and then massage it into the hole(s) in bottom plate. Not into fancy and they could vibrate without doing much harm and flexible is always good in "abrupt contact situations"! small diameter heater hose type

Hi Ken,
I bought a muffler from you a few weeks ago for my 25cc mac look-a-like that I bought from John in Arizona. The engine, right out of the plastic case, would turn a zinger 16 x 6 at 7,865 with the stock muffler and will now turn the same prop at 8,250 with your muffler. The engine hand starts easily and will idle at 1,400 to 1,500 rpm. I should mention too, that I had to change the carb as the original carb did not have a high speed needle for mixture adjustment. Pretty impressive for a $25.00 engine!!

Tractor Supply Co has the Mac blower....but the price is about $89. Also Menards had the Yardman blower YMB290 which is the same as Mac. I would say the _bay seller has the best price. Capt,n

Maybe it's just me but, I went into these websites and can't even find one item listed for mac or yardman, menard's won't even show an online catalog. I've checked home depot and ebay, and none of them show any evidence of mac or yardman existing, even the mtd/yardman website can't even get me to a distributor. I can't believe this, do they still make them?

Hey Guy,
Orchard Supply Hardware carries the Yardman leaf blower in our town of Visalia.. Unfortunately their price is $109.95. It seems to be clone of the Mac or vice-a-versa. Haven't seen any Macs in our area.
John in Chandler Az. has the best prices on this size engine @ $26.00 plus shipping.

just thought I'd let everyone know, got four of them today and WOW what an engine, all I have left is to make a prop hub and I'm ready to go on one. I would highly recommend John to anybody, heck of a nice guy and wow what a deal, now all I have to do is build a plane to mount this cool engine on. I think I'll post pics of my build so everybody can see what an easy conversion looks like.

You can find more part blow-ups by using YMB-290 rather than MB-290 Use the Yard Man webb-site. Engines are identical...I think! Capt,n

I don't think you even need to make a prop hub for this motor, all you do is slide on four heavy 1/2 inside washers...makes mine come out flush with the end of the blower fan mount, then bolt on a prop.... way to easy and cheap....oh yeah, you'll need a longer 8mm by 1 bolt.

Has anyone checked the port timing on a stock version of this engine?
I came up with 115 deg duration on the intake and 135 deg duration on the exhaust.

Additionally I found that a Zenoah carb adapter for a G23 is a perfect fit (Horizon $12).

I found the exhaust duration to be 122* and raised it to 150* on one engine and 155* on another. Both engines run about the same.

Post #44 has some information from flipflop.
A search for 'duration' in this thread will get a lot of information.

Bill

you'll also need to raise the intake to about 135 degrees!

Hi Captinjohn, Its been a while, if you ever get around to converting your MB290, I need the stock carb that came with the unit. Or if any one else reading this and has converted thiers, let me know. I am still using mine as a blower, The carb went south since the weather got good. I can't find any info on the unit.

How are you doing these days capt? I hope you are recovering ok.

Thanks George

I'm finishing up the telemaster test bed for the MB...then time to wait for some good warmer weather here in the midwest! Will fire up the engine and see how she works as a plane engine! Should be a lot of fun! Any results on propping this thing?? I've got a 16-6 on their now. Should be more than enough torque and hopefully not too much speed, I'd like the Sr. Telemaster it's on to land eventually. will post some pics as I get closer...
