I would like to consider fitting a Centax clutch to my Yokomo GT4, however the Yokomo clutch is very expensive. Added to this the gears are different, I think, and also a new mootor mount is needed. All of this adds up to about $150+.
Is this mod worth doing, or would someone elses Centax clutch fit the chassis Thanks

You can try a HPI or Mugen clutch (Mugen is better than the R40 setup) or the Ofna CD3 Pro. I'm using the ofna CD3 pro centax on my R40 and just had to swap the pinions. However a rubber washer was installed on the CB so it keeps first gear's pinion out far enough.

Thanks Saboteur10573,
So you are using an Ofna Centax clutch on your HPI R40? Do I understand it right : you installed a rubber washer, as a spacer, on the clutch bell? Are all Centax clutches the same?
Anyone have experience with fitting one to a Yokomo?
Thanks in advance

Yeah I did that because the first gear pinion screws down too far on the CB so it's halfway on the 1st gear spur. All centax's are clutches, but some have minor differences. Some feature different type of clutch shoes, spacers, etc.

centex clutches all work the same...they may use different bearing sizes, clutch bell size, pinion threading and size and pitch, and finally different flywheels. The mugen centex goes for around 50$ to adopt the full thing but its real nice.

Does anyone know if the Ofna or HPI Centax clutch will work with the Yokomo? Maybe some small mods necessary, but is the tooth form the same on the gears?
Thanks

I highly doubt it. The MTX standard has the .8 module gears, and the HPI's are slightly different as well. Possible stripping can occur. You can still go in the LHS and ask to see if a HPI pinion works with the yok. If there is no smooth transaction with the movement then forget it. Only modding is if the pinion works or not. Nothing else can be done.
