Does anybody have a stock G2300 muffler they don't need anymore ?
I had another deadstick with my new G-2300 the other day causing some major repairs to be made. When the landing gear sheared it's nylon bolts the stock ST muffler came apart in three pieces. I was surprised to see that it was pressure fitted together.
Because of low funds $ I have JB-Welded it back together using the oven on warm as a curing station. I then saftey wired it .
So far during two tank fulls run in the garage I have had no problems. But I fear the worst if flown like this.
I have a brand new OS 91FX muffler I could use as trade if needed.
Thank you in advance.

On another G-2300 note I discovered a simple fix others may want to try. After putting my engine back on my repaired plane I got the RTV "red " and applied a bead around where the carb flushes up to the intake. This must have cured a tiny air leak because the mid range is way better now and I see no wetness (fuel residue) around the engine anymore.

The old type swing muffler was riveted together.

The new style with the fins has a bolt that goes all the way through it. You will not find a bolt that long but you can use a piece of threaded rod.

Is this the kind you have?

Enjoy,

Jim

Hi Jim, always glad to see your posts/comments. Yes, it's the newer one with the long bolt. I still have the bolt from my busted muffler. It didn't get bent or ruined. It simply pulled through the back of the muffler. I replaced the washers with better steel ones and got a lock nut for it instead of the twin nuts. But the rear muffler area was too damaged to reuse the bolt. So I JB-Welded everything.

That is so great that you guys will let one go. I have a few stock mufflers around here too that I never used because of after market pipes and Pitts. A few are still in the box new. But no SuperTigre.
"I PM'd you Sean."

Kurt,

I got your message and read the post. It's too bad Super Tiger doesn't sell parts for these.

It's too far gone to replace parts on. And a new one costs more than a Pitts style muffler.
Don't get me wrong here guys. I'm willing to pay you for the spare muffler + shipping. Was just hoping someone like myself had one laying around gathering dust like some of my O.S. stock mufflers are out in the shop.

the j-b weld won't hold up long. vibration and heat and fuel and oil will get to it pretty quick. better get a new one or a pitts muffler that will fit. i have been through this before myself. your repaired muff can break or crack in the air causing a lean condition and the engine will quit causing a dead stick. i guess you know all this.......just trying to help............RON
