ORIGINAL: Ron Olson Long time NASCAR fan, that and Drag racing. I can't get into road course racing, not even when NASCAR does it. F-1 is losing fans here is the states and it really showed this past year, especially after the tire problem issue. The Indy cars haven't been too exciting for years, the only thing that tried to save it was Danica Patrick and the attention that she got. Myself, I wouldn't think there were that many fans of F1 in the USA anyway since most US tracks probably don't show an F1's full performance. For that matter, even the Champ Cars/Cart Series are limited because they have to be geared down for the tracks or at least they do here anyway--geared down to around 220 mph. The 2006 race here has also apparently been moved to Wisconsin and after sitting in the stands I can see why--the 1.5 mile oval is not only boring, but most of the fans leave after the NASCAR truck race. Then some only show up for the Champ Car race. Of course, Danica Patrick probably attracted a certain IRL crowd and the "connection" between Champ Car driver Alex Tagliani and Spike TV (Austrailian Bronte is his wife and host of "Dangerous Curves" probably helps as well though the promotion is not the same since F1 is tucked away on the Speed Channel while NASCAR is on mainstream television. Sure NASCAR can do some "racing and rubbing", but rubbing some open wheel F1s at higher speeds in tighter corners on a tougher course is quite dangerous. Of course, the US crowds would probably enjoy watching a US $25M F1 go down the tubes. Perhaps, if some USA born drivers were in the "A Mains" of F1, more US natives would appreciate watching F1, especially if they could be opened up on a nice course. To me, it simply reminds me of "American Football" and Soccer. Most of the world seems to prefer soccer with some taste for football while it is the other way around in the USA. Then there was TransAm racing....
