Hmmmmm .... Interesting...

I can only wonder where their seed money came from....

However; I applaud any individual Club that is hosting a Sporting Event / Fun Fly at their own expense.

These people deserve our respect - to host an event of this magnitude on the local club's expense account - this is an undertaking of monumental preportions - GOOD LUCK!!

I am curious though; is it MAAC sanctioned? ...

What I am hearing is that the CAC claims MAAC members who attend bring MAAC insurance with them even though the CAC is not a chartered club nor is the event sanctioned by MAAC. They are also claiming that the US flyers will be covered by MAAC insurance as well. They are claiming that by having the permission of the land owner MAAC insurance will be in affect. I wonder how our insurance will view holding the bag even though the group nore the event are recognized by MAAC. It sure looks like every member of MAAC will be saddled with the risk for this event if this happens. What will the repercussions for all of the members of MAAC if this is allowed to happen? Isn't insurance hard enough and expensive enough? How about the guys who fly with owners permission because they have no choice? Will this end up affecting them. I guess the question is do those who are attempting to force feed us this garbage care about anything but their own agenda? Talk about the need for a good old exorcism. Anyone know a good Father?

Hmmm. An attempted end-run. I can see how the individual MAAC members might have coverage, but how do the Yanks get coverage when MAAC has specifically not sanctioned this event?

---and how are the organizers protected?

Maybe we aren't on the hook. The insurance carrier may very well deny coverage, given the circumstances (insurance companies have notoriously cold hearts). I sure wouldn't want to take a chance without a definitive statement from our carrier.

Denis why are you trying so hard to deny the Canadian modelers a chance to compete? If you have a problem with certain personnel take it up with them, not the CAC.

It's not too often one gets a chance to compete at a top notch paved airport with a dedicated volunteer and contestant base.

If you would like to start another competition event I will be more than happy to compete.

For the rest of you who support the idea of top notch competition keep the entry forms coming.

Thanks

Peter

For just a moment ignore all the nonsense that has gone on before.

Any club or individual can put on an event on property with the owners permission. Any MAAC and AMA member can participate and will be covered by their individual insurance, no more, no less. The club or individual can call the event what they like. It does not need a MAAC sanction.

It is that simple.

having just retired, I thought I would do something that was different. I decided to fly models and since I have always been competitive this CAC thing interested me.

I find it very strange why one person is trying to prevent one competition. The post about insurance just does not make sence. It appears that some people do not belong to clubs but get coverage because they have permission. I don't see the difference between them and this CAC club.
If no sanction ( according to one ) is not needed, what is the real problem. My experience has been that when someone is doing all of the destroying, they don't have the ability to do it themselves.
I know that when I come to Canada, ( according to the AMA ) I have insurance through your organization even if I am flying at a friends field. Apparently day to day flying or events don't need sanctions
The AMA sanction is only for record keeping, if you want to keep the records, from what I understand, maybe it is the same in Canada.

Anyway, I hope to get up there and see this event, it sounds very interesting

Quite true Ed...I have tried to get an answer as to why this event is different....yet to date there is no valid one that I have heard. I can see nowhere in MAAC's bylaws etc that would state simply because of a name that they are any more or less responsible than they are for any of the 100's of other events that go on each year.

The only reason I can come up with....is the personalities involved in this event...and it has simply resulted in a big peeing contest.

Anyways, the dates work...I just might be able to attend

Can773 says it is a peeing contest. I was at one of those once down in Florida. The winner got a record 14feet. There were a few wet pant legs that day I'll tell you

What kind of events are the CAC going to have, anything for a beginner
