With the exhaust timing changed and head clearance set at .020" The GMS 32 (throw away engine) will spin an apc 8/7 at 18800 rpm on 15% fuel and a jett tuned muffler. Still have not been able to get it to shut off. Have to work on that issue.

MyWay,

For whatever the reason (low production volumes, high local wages, 'I like it when my pockets are really full', Etc..), the JettStream and the UltraThrust from Nelson/Performance Specialists are way beyond their worth to most modelers (or many more would be buying them, don't you think?).

If you just invested $5-$10 more in a larger engine, from the same company as yours (i.e. buy a GMS .47, instead of buying the GMS .32, F.E.), you would have more power then your smaller engine could ever put out, even with these impressive power boosters.

And it will not cost you an arm and a leg...

You will also get a much longer life, from a larger engine running less strained.

About your inability to shut your GMS engine down; there have been several threads in RCU about this issue.
Do a search.

Dar is correct that a larger engine is a better solution than adding a pipe. For that reason I'm looking to replace the engine in the model below.

Great looking Plane, but it appears you may have it underpowered a bit.

Hey DU, what is the glide like on that thing

What is the weight penalty though going from the 32 to the 47 versus added weight tuned muffler on the 32.

I have a OS32F with stock muffler on a Shrike 10 , already moves at a fair rate of knots, would like to get more RPMs out of it, my choices are pretty limited:

OS46 - already had to carve away half the front to sqeeze the 32 in there, no chance on the getting the 46 in there unless i want something similar to downunder....
Tuned pipe - good option, probably get the best increase of RPM's
Tuned muffler - bolt on solution - probably another 1000 r's

The tuned muffler from PS or Jett will both be cheaper and no doubt less frustrating the setting up the full pipe.

Dar, I think you missed point. The cost on both the tuned muffler and engine is very reasonable. Also, the tuned muffler can be used on various side exhaust engines from .20 to .39.

One of my all time favourite combo's is a MDS 38 £35 with a Genesis Throttle Pipe £45.

Very powerful instant throtle response and lighter than a 40.

It's at least 6 years old and has had many gallons of fuel through it.

Oh yeah and it only gives up when it runs out of fuel.

...which have the same bolt spacing and a similar exhaust port shape...

If Jett and Nelson could make and sell these very effective tuned silencers in great numbers, they would cost just $20-25, which would be a reasonable price.

Prices like $55-75 for items like this are not reasonable, for anyone who has to work for his living, feed his family, Etc..

Nice job! Great touch, adding the original kit box and rolled plans in the background.

Bet you can't bring that one down to idle and float it in for landing....

Good flying,

Dar, Why can't mvvs make a bolt on tuned muffler for $20? Ever price a full tuned pipe lately? When comparing a mvvs tuned muffler to a jett or ultra thrust which one is more durable and hassle free? You get what you pay for.
