Hi Lee,
Sorry if I have been a little remiss with the thread...just a hard time of year with a new job and holidays and all. However, I did dry-fit the cannisters and it is gonna be a snap! I am using the MTW TD75...they come in two varieties, long and skinny and short and fat. I opted for the longer skinny varietyfine, but I do believe the other version would fit just fine.
The total length of the cannister is 15" including the flange (can itself is 14" and the width is 2 1/4". Here is a pic of the cannister....

Well guys..time to get serious about gtting this model completed so I have a little more to add tonight. The engine is hung on some 3/4" aluminum spacers my friend Paul Gentile was kind enough to machine for me (as he was running out the door on vacation! Thanks Paul... ). I am now in the process of mounting the cannisters. I ran out of time tonight but the front mount is going to have to be removable to have access to the landing gear nuts. I have a few ideas but I haven't yet decided what direction I am going to take...yet. But overall it looks like it is gonna be a fairl easy deal.
Oh yea, I opted to use blind nuts on this engine installation just to make it easier to deal with the when the engine is off the plane. The firewall is made from some seriously hard wood and I don't believe that is is going to crush at all.

Hey Doug,
Don't think you can go wrong with either plane! I know the 2.6 Yak is good plane also. But I have to tell you that the bang for the buck factor is pretty high with the Aviation Models Yak. It is huge for a 35% bird and the build quality is very good so far! Keeping in mind that both of these planes are arf's you can of course find some things to complain about here and there, but overall we are in this hobby at a very exciting time because there are simply sooo many killer planes to choose from and they just keep getting better and better! it is all just good!
I'll have more to post a little later on tonight. Back to the basement..............

Finished up the cannister mounts taoday so I thought I would share! I made up a pair of aluminum brackets for the front mount out of 1" aluminum angle stock....simple and effective! For the top (or bottom i just used some 1/8" light ply and screwed them directly to the front former. This way I can easily remove the front cannister mount and maintain access to the landing gear bolts.
Oh yea...the mount's themselves are MTW and are avail through Desert Aircraft. I love em...makes my life considerabley easier!

A few of the rear mount. It really is not necessary to utilize two mounts, one positioned about 2/3 back would do the job. However you do risk cracked headers over time so I went with two. The downside of using two mounts is that you really have to take care that the rear one is positioned to maintain the proper angle between the header and cannister. Notice I raised the mount 1/8" for this purpose.

Notice in the picture that the cannister and header are in alignment. It is very important to maintain that relationship. Also, when you install the cannisters..do NOT just center the mounts and glue in! The cannisters will be offset in the tunnel simply because the the engine is offset on the firewall. Bolt on the headers and cannisters and allow them to "float" in the tunnel...than place the mounts based in the cannister position. I realize that this is probably very obvious but felt is was worth mentioning anyway.......we all do things sometimes without enough thought (God knows I do ) so ....I would rather give too much (maybe redundant) info than not enough!
Also...a quick side shot of the forward cannister mount bracket bolts. Just so you can see what I did.

Oh yea...for whom ever wanted to know the width of the cowl (like weeks ago ) it is 13" across. I measured a while ago and just realized I never posted the info. Sorry about that. If anyone needs a pic just let me know.
