i have both the 30 and 35 % and the stock gear is very good. i dont know why it seems everybody wants to put stiff gear on and transfer all the shock load of landing to the airframe. i have about 5 gals. through the 30% and the gear is still as new. and just got about 6 flights on the 35 and the same thing for it

Agreed, the stock gear is very good. It is cool to see it 'working'. It is not too soft. I went with the Graphtech carbon gear on my 35% to save weight and was not happy. It is too soft, looked goofy on the ground with the wheel pants splayed out at odd angles. The SD gear cured all the weak points of the Graphtech. Looks great, retains its' shape, is lighter than stock and has held up great after 1.5 years of use.

Graph tech says their gear is stronger than SD gear. I have had both and that statement is just wrong. I have seen many Graph tech gear fail on landings that were not that hard. Also my SD gear came predrilled and looks much better graphtech could at least drill for axles

i already ordered the sd gear. i got the 37.5% gear. they didnt have the 35%. but the bolt pattern is the same. the only thing will be the gear will be a little taller which i like. 129.00. little expensive but they do look sharp.....

I have the stock gear on my 35% at 28lbs, and the carbon gear on my 37.5% at 38lbs,the carbon gear from SD works great,I do not have an opinion on the graphtech becouse I have never tried them. Some people like the fact that with an aluminum gear you have flex and the ability to bend back into shape, some feel that they have to build as light as possible,do what you feel is right,it's not about keeping up with the "Jones"

i understand what you are saying . i think these sd gear are the ones for me. i didnt like even with a super soft landing how the stock gear just bottoms out. i dont see how the will hold there spring for long. i have been reading that the sd gear forthe 37% yak is stronger the the stock aluminum gear without being so smushy. also the sd gear look very cool compared to the graphtech which i put on and i hate the way it looks. they look sawed off looking. i know i am a goof. laughs. this my first big plane and is adictive.

Guys, I wanted to know what is the weight every body is getting on the planes.
I will be using a 3W106 CSS. Hitec 5985 on ailerons, 5955s on elevators and 2 futabas 9152 on the rudder. Smartfly power expander sport and super regulator with 2 fromeco 2600 mAh batteries. I might install a smoke system (sullivan skywriter) Carbon tubes, carbon gear.
So, has anyone weighted their plane?

Thanks,
John

I fly the Aviation Model 40% Yak. As many of you have already mentioned, the Main gear and the wheels supplied with this plane are of poor quality. The main gear just barely supported the weight of the plane while on the ground. During the first landing, the wheels immediately separated from the hubs and the gear flatten to the point that the prop tips struck the ground. I finally replaced the gear with one that is made by TNT Landing Gear and switched from the 3/16 inch diameter axles to 1/4 inch axles. The wheels were replaced with a set of 5 inch diameter wheels from a Byron P 40. Now I can fly and land knowing that the gear will hold.

mine made both of my wheel pants split down the middle on the third flight. they were soft landings. the stock gear is to soft and causes the wheels to bow in which causes the pants to break. i am not removing them . i got a new set of pants and sd cf gear on order. and the stock axels and tires are junk. i am putting 1/4 axels on my 35%. they are rated for 55 pound plane. is an overkill but thats good.
