Howard Pardues Bearcat lives 2 miles from me.
I'd like to build a replica.
Can anyone tell me about their experience with the Bearcat,or other Ziroli builds in general?
Thanks,
Mike

I said I was ALMOST exclusively C/L now

The Ziroli Bearcat builds in to a fine looking, exceptional flying model, if you can get a reputable kit cutter to cut it out for you.

Mike,

Ziroli is a world class designer, his planes are a solid design philosophy and fly great. Many of my customers have had great success with the bearcat. The word of caution is that the retracts are a little pricey.

I have owned and flown a Ziroli Bearcat, and currently fly my friends enlarged Ziroli Bearcat (109 inch span). IT is fairly easy to build and flies great. Those short, deep wings makes it fly as if on rails. HArd, tight rools, but slows to a crawl with flaps bown. No bad tendencies. If you do not want to cut out the parts yourself (I enjoy this part), I would recommend getting a kit from the Aeroplane Works. I have bought many kits, mainly Ziroli, and I have found that the best overall cutting job, fit of parts and balsa selection would have to go to the Aeroplane works. That's not to say the others are bad, but having built about 10 Ziroli planes, and 5 of these supplied by the Aeroplane works, I have found their consistency to great fitting/building kits to be unsurpassed. IF you go with the scale gear, be advised that they are neat and expensive, but require constant tinkering to keep them from getting sloppy. I had to adjust the drag link on mine after about every 2nd or 3rd flight to keep it all tight and working properly. Here is a pic of my friends 109 inch BEarcat.

Outstanding choice....

http://airrayinc.com/warbirds_i.htm

some pics of my previous American Eagle Bearcat kit is at the above link. All of the important notes are already mentioned above. Ziroli is the benchmark for wood kits, if you want an option, and your composite building skills are pretty good, I reccomend American Eagle as an option. I ran the Century Jet retracts on mine. I will be building another one first of the year, and adding pictures on line as well.

Ray

Mike, I just finished a ziroli bearcat done up in Rare Bear racing colors. It is very easy to build and flies just as the others have said. F4U-5 has seen it fly first hand. It was clocked at 140 mph on radar and is powered by a bme 102. Check my webpage for building pics.

We are currently building one of the Ziroli's and are using the Barton articulating retracts. They are beautifully done! Gene has really stood behind his work for us.
