Yes, I know that lots of people saw the thread subject and thought that I would be announcing that the Ultra Sport 60 is coming back into production. Don't I wish that it was. Anyway, I have noticed that every time a thread starts up about the US 60 lots of people always chime in and say how much they loved that kit. And the US 60 always seems to get lots of answers to the question "What the best plane you've flown." And now US 60 kits are fetching $200+ on Ebay and here on the RCU marketplace. Keeping all of that in mind it seems that there is a big demand for the kit, or at least I would like to think there is.

Anyway, on to the subject of this thread. A few years ago I had a conversation with a VP from Great Planes and we talked about the US 60 kits. He said that they took it out of production because the sales had slumped on that kit. He also indicated to me that Great Planes might consider a limited "Nostalgia" release of the US 60 if they thought that there was enough demand for it, but he never told me just what that "demand" would be enough to consider. So I have sat here and waited. Well, in an unrelated conversation with a VP from Tower Hobbies 2 weeks ago the conversation shifted over to talking about the US 60 again. In my conversation with him he indicated that a production run (Bax, please correct me if my figure is not correct) would be about 300 kits. So there is it, the magic number that I needed to know.

Now here is what I am trying to do here. I want to see a limited run of the Ultra Sport 60 kit. My purpose with this thread is to see just how much real demand there is for this kit if it does come back in production. If we can get enough response I plan on showing this thread to the officials at Great Planes that there is enough demand for this kit to make a limited production run of this kit. If we can't generate enough demand then I'll know that Great Planes was correct when they told me there wasn't enough interest to keep the kit in production. I'm hoping the RCU community can come together and kit this kit back on the shelves, even if it is for a limited time!!

What I'm hoping for is for everybody to post here if they would purchase a US kit if it came back into production. Also, if you are anything like me you'll buy more than one kit so that you have one for later on down the road. So also let me know how many copies of the kit you would buy if it came back out. And lastly, how much money would be too much for you to say "forget it"?

Hopefully we can show Great Planes that there is enough interest for this kit and maybe we can get them to bring it back into production.

Thanks in advance for helping out.

Ken

Well, truthfully, I prefer the 40 size, but if the 60 came back, I would probably buy one just to have it.

Big opps on my part. I didn't say how many I would buy.

I will start off with saying that I would buy 3 kits. Probably $130-$150 would be the limit I would pay for them.

Even though out of frustration I decided to scratchbuild a US60 (coming along nicely)
I would immediately order TWO US60 kits for future use should they become available
again. While I'm not have much trouble with the scratchbuild I can now really appreciate
the time and effort a well designed kit can save.

The only caveat is that they should bring back the ORIGINAL US60. Not
some 3D ****ization of the US like their current US40+.

I will place this in my "I'll believe it when I see it" file.

I'd order at least five. I bought several of the US1000 limited run ones thru my LHS, and as soon as they became unavailable again, street prices jumped up $50. Selling some allowed me to keep active in the hobby without taking food off the table. I would expect the US60 would follow the same pattern. Heck, if a person could buy all 300 @ $100 each and resell them on that Extremely Big AYuction site at $200 each.....

I'd take 2 if they'd ship them to the UK, has to be the original US60 by the way and I'd go £100 - £120 to include import taxes.

Come on Great PLanes..................

I would buy 2 kits. I haven't flown one yet. But certainly, 3D is not my flying preference. I wouldn't pay more than 130.00-150.00

Rcken have you thought about talkin to either GP or Towerhobbies in maybe setting up a group purchase. I know on most Hobby specific forums (ex cars, performanceparts, computers) there are Group purchases going where someone has talked to the company and worked it out. Usually this is good for several reasons, 1 being if the Group purchase is dealing through GReat planes on this situation they know hey we got a definate number of people buying the kit at one time they know they will be making money and might be more open to doing it. and 2 with going through GP with a group purchase we could get them at more of a dealer/lower price and be more inclined to buy more or if not more inclined to buy more at least be more of a jump on a good deal kinda thing. anyways just my thoughts. Not sure if GP would be willing to do a Group purchase, and ive only dealt with one as large as 150 ish people not one with a scale of 300 but im sure it could be done. especially with such a large population that RCU has

If it was a limited run, I would also have to buy 2 of them. One to build and fly, and one to put up and let age a bit. It would have to be the original US 60 though, and not just the name pasted on a totally different Plane!
