Yep. And they both fly almost identically, and weigh about 1/2oz different dry. And they fly really nice too

I would think by now you'd know the difference between a good flying plane and a good flying pilot?

No time to play with new schedules right now, so I'll pass. You'll have plenty of chances at me later on, "big boy". Heh. I have time

Nope, and that's one I usually make. I just REALLY don't have any time right now. Hopefully lots later on, but none now. My next contest will be the NATS, and then....could be Jacksonville in late Sep. before the next one.

Mike, that's a gorgeous airplane, and just goes to show, that you can still build aircraft.

I think a lot of people have forgotten that.

Cool - see you at Pocono Scott. I should be there by Friday afternoon for some practice. I'll be posting some pic's of my Black Magic build soon. Right now I'm just flying and getting ready for the NATs.

I think everybody is flying and getting ready for the Nats, except me. I was going to practice this week and it got cut short, so I got 3 flights. Ugly ones. Oh well, there's some time left....

John,

I should be in Pocono Thursday afternoon if all goes right with work, and might run down to site to practice or a private strip I know of..

I hope I'm not the only electric there...

HI All,

Well, I blew off the Culman comp and didn't meet Mike for practice today.

I stayed home and made a big mess of balsa dust. I finished all the major wood builds today. Got the tail together- fin/rudder - my little laser really helped with alignment. - in these pics the lasers look really think, they are actually less than 1/8" wide. really helps to get the fin and everything straight. All the stuff that Mike suggests to eyeball - set up the laser and it just makes it way easier....

The carbon wing and stab tubes are installed. I have the canopy frame cut, just need to glue it all together, and install the cowl and chin install the servos -cut the elevators and ailerons.... a few
more bits than I am ready for final sanding and paint - hopefully not more than another 100 hours : )

good thing this is my therapy.... and the next comp is about 2 months away....

cheers ! ( I am about to crack a beer)

Dean

Yeah my Chicago trip got cancelled, but I DID manage to get some practice. Much needed, now I need about 50 more sessions just like that....and there aren't that many days until the nats!

Looking good Dean. You're almost there!

BTW at this point if you haven't already, put the engine and spinner in place, and keep the rudder taped on....and measure the total length. Just make sure, if any mistakes were made and it's a hair too long, it's MUCH easier to fix it now. I seem to remember a certain competitor taking a blade to his wing tips (OUCH!!!) at the Nats a couple of years ago, only to be disqualified anyway...

Since it's home built and very close, it's always a good idea to check at this point.

Hi Mike,

it's 78 7/16 from the tip of the true turn to the back edge of the rudder. whew....

also in that last picture of the plane complete with:

all wood - nothing left to build. landing gear, canopy, canopy frame, all composities, YS 140, Hype ARIS mount, spinner, adapter, apc 16x11 -

I am at 7 lbs 2 oz.

So I am guessing what the additonal 5 JR servos, carbon nomex mounts, JR 649 RX and ext., 2400 lithum, reg and switch, MK links, clips and horns, MK tail wheel, main wheels and cental axels, Tetra Tank, plumbing and final finsih will weigh... ?? - that is all that is left....

I am hoping to get the cowl and chin finished tommorrow....

cya, dean

Just to let everyone know, the web site has been updated with some news and some pricing for the new short kit #3, former sets and complete wood sets. Although it won't be technically available until July 3, if you're needing stuff you can go ahead and get the order in. I am bringing a trailer to the Nats with a couple of kits I already have to deliver, so if you will be at the Nats and want one go ahead and hit me up and you can pick it up there (with a few bucks off and no shipping). Because I'm such a nice guy (LOL) anyone else who wants this stuff can also get it at that price plus shipping.

My time is pretty much vaporized between now and the nats, so I'll get as much done as I can before I leave. I have a good bit of stock so most of it shouldn't be a problem.

So, check it out at Custom Airframes

Thanks for all the support,
-Mike

Mike,
Does the wood package include all wood needed to complete (skins, fuselage, etc), or is it just the formers?

Nope you'll still need the sheeting (no way to get enough to supply that many kits). So basically you'll need the fuse sides, capping and sheeting. This set includes all formers, gear block, doublers, false ribs root ribs, spars (spruce and balsa/cf laminate), canopy pieces (except bottom).....LOTS of wood. All one would need is 1/16 sheeting, a few pieces for the fuse sides and some various 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" and 1" pieces for miscellaneous capping. This set is basically all of the parts that are so much work.....

I'm still working for a complete CNC kit, including everything. But that is a ways off.

I started to build or I should say finish a Black Magic. I can not believe how awesome the carbon work is. Its the best I've seen in any kit. Things are starting to go pretty well. Also nice job on the plans. How much longer before a composite kit?
