Just received my warhead today... can't wait to start breaking it in. Hopefully tomorrow. We will see if the 12 month wait was worth it or if I should have gotten the Savage 4.6

Take you time, break it in right and keep us posted. I'm sure you have read of the broken parts to expect to break. I have not broken anything yet, but I have not bashed it yet.
Have fun and let us know how it goes.

Its cold here (40 - 45) so I am hoping for the best. Luckily I can start it in the back of my warehouse so it will not be too cold when I start it. I hear of all the broken parts... this puzzles me. I am an unfortunate owner of a Maximum MT with the stress tech parts and actually think they are too soft. I run that truck all year (25 - 110 degress outside) the parts never seem brittle. I've rolled that truck 20 times end over end (wish I had a video) and all I damaged was the fake fog lights on the body. I guess we will see...

I have read that it's good to warm up the motor with a heat gun (I used a hair dryer) to releive some of the pinch on a new motor. I had warmed mine up the first time I run it and accutally got it too hot on my first run, no harm done that I know of. As for the temps outside that should be fine. I'm in Pa also and I havw broke in mine in those temps, you shouldn't have a problem.

weekend, remember that you maximum doesnt weight 12 pounds, so that plays a large roll. i wouldnt worry too much though as it seems like a very strong truck in my opinion.

For anyone who thinks the body sits too far foreward try swaping the body mounts front to back. This moves the body back about a 1/4".
Looks a lot better.

wyd, yes I know what you mean, I love the mountains and outdoors. Winter is a realy long season for me. I have a trainer I put my bike on and watch tv and ride in the winter.
If you live around the area and like riding I bet you have been to either Mt Gretna or Stoney Creek to ride. I guess you could of gone to Michaux State Park to. I road some a Mt Gretna and Stoney Creek. Mt Gretna was the best place for me. I like riding in the woods even if my skills are lacking.

My friend from grade school owns In Gear Cycling and Fitness in Hummelstown PA. Back many years ago I bought a Schwinn Homegrown Factiry Team XTR. Man it was a killer bike but way too good for me to have thats for sure. I only bought because of my buddy owning the shop. Under no circumstance would I normally of done that. I have always ridden Schwinns since 1979 when I was a kid but since they are a department store bike anymore I guess I would look at some others if I started to ride again. Maybe Cannondale since they are a big dealer of those. So many cool bikes out nowadays its tough to decide. IF Schwinn came back I would still buy theirs but I don't know if that would ever happen again or not.

I've got the same box and it's working fine. I just need to figure out how to set the thing up so that it holds the car correctly. It came with no instructions and I've never set one up before. I just line it up by looking now, but it can fall off the rubber.

My new engine should be here tomorrow. I'll probably avoid the starter box with it and just use the pull start...

Also I was wrong. Direct from the SuperTigre Tech, breaking in the G-27CX on a test stand with an airplane prop is not a good idea. will cause the engine to over-cool for one thing.. Just running it in the car on a medium-rich setting and accelerating up and down the track/parking lot is the best way..

I drive a 1989 Lincoln Town Car. I have some really nice American Racing wheels I run on it in the Summertime. I also have a 1971 Fiat 124 Sport sitting in my yard. Oh I have 2 Mongoose mountain bikes in my cellar too. I have a large collection of HO and N guage trains. HO scale slot cars from wayyyyy back too. OH, this isn't the forum where this goes? LOL. Sorry about being sarcastic but I'm subscribed to this thread and when I get an email and come here to see what's been posted about the WarHead and see it's a post about something else, I get a bit preturbed. I feel I've wasted my time. Please send a PM or start another thread.

I realy didn't think it would come to talking about mountain bikes. Sorry.
Just to let you know my last reply to wyd, was indeed a "pm" because of this.

Warhead Question, Seeing that I am waiting for my warhead to arrive. To kill time, I was strolling through my local Hobbie Store and but to look at the warhead again. One of my curious questions is this....... If you would push down on the front suspension towards the ground, it look like the sway bar(suspension arms) interfer with the bumper from bottoming out. Has anyone had any problems with this?? As I was looking at others like traxxas and other MT the warhead didnt or seem to bottom out.Is this a good thing?????????

Has anyone adjusted the slipper clutch?

My son was running it today at slower speeds and I noticed it seemed to be slipping.
How do you know when you have it adjusted good?

Holding good temps although I did notice after about 2/3 tank it started to get warm. Speaking of warm I did noticed it made good power from 250 to 270, my boy did hit 280 putting around 1/2 throttle.

Stalled a couple times after full throttle to nothing. Still need to figure that out?

Dog bone pins are showing wear, now that I'm hammering the throttle. I know someone else posted this problem. See picture, has a flat spot started. I will be contacting Duratrax about this. They won't last long and with a $34.00 replacement cost for a pair of these, they better look into an upgraded replacement or there will be allot of unhappy warhead owners. What do you guys think? Will they replace these?

Hey guys. I pulled apart my engine today to see the extent of the damage... It's D E A D.

I've got pictures here:
http://www.onitap.com/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=16

My replacement will be here tomorrow. So take this as warning. Don't throttle up the engine without a load!! This is what happens

And the flaking, it IS the clutch shoe. The clutch shoes do NOT feel like metal to me. In fact one of mine had a small dent on it and I was able to push the dent flat with my fingernail. You can see in this picture here there is some of the flaking on the edge of one side of the shoe. this is not metal shavings.

Basically the engine over-reved and elongated the connecting rod where it connects to the crankshaft. It also shatered the piston rod that holds the connecting rod on to the piston. This allowed the piston to move a little too much and it slammed in to the crankshaft bending the edge of the piston. From the looks of the connecting rod, it was on it's way to cracking as well. There is a fracture on the bottom where it connects to the crank. Also in the picture you can see the bad o-ring that was on the carb. I think that was not caused by the same issue, and in fact came from the factory like that. Might explain why my settings would never stay the same, it was an air leak in the carb.

-Dave

Spacoli, looks like real small metal shaving around where the outdrives come out. Is that metal shavings or just normal oil and dirt? I am keeping my eye on this thread. I really like the looks of the Warhead and hope it turns out to be half a good as it looks. So far I don't think this thread points out anything that would stop me from buying one. Keep the reports coming guys.

With my camera set on macro (for close up shots) it picks up every little spec of dust.
I'm sure there is some metal there from the dogbones wearing, but not near as much as it looks in the picture.

Dave, since your engine is apart, would you mind snapping a few pics of
the sleeve and crankshaft. I'm thinking of a warhead for a racer and just
wondering how much potential the engine if I were to port and polish it.
Just got done doing it on my savage and it really brought out the beast.

Also is anybody racing the warhead yet? If so how how it handles ot a track?

Sure, i'll have to do it tomorrow though. I don't have a way to get the flywheel off right now (without hurting something). Got a new flywheel wrench coming with the new engine tomorrow.
