This is the New Bright Ski Doo? Mine had a 14 tooth stock. I wonder if they changed the gearing. I actually cut the top off the housing (where the motor mounts) and rivited an aluminum plate to the back side with slotted holes for the motor so that I could adjust it for different sized gears.

I put a cheap 17 turn motor in mine, but I came across alittle snag. If I use a 14, 16..whatever size pinion other than the stock 9 tooth, I will have to slot out the gear housing in which the motor mounts to in order to get the proper gear mesh. I feel this will dramatically weaken the gear housing, so I'll need to reinforce it will alumimum or something.
I have a 14 tooth pinion on order and a 16 pinion ready to go, guess I'll get the dremel out and make the adjustments I need, just need to pick up a thin piece of aluminum plate.

I wonder how well it would run with the stock 9 tooth pinion and my upgraded motor, esc and 7 cell 3300 pack?

Huh, that's really odd. Mine was a 14 as I mentioned. I wonder what the changes to the final drive are, if any. I wonder if they just resized all the gears in there but kept the same overall ratio?

Okay, got my new 17 turn motor with 16tooth pinion installed, seems to run with plenty of speed now, just need somemore snow. I've made the recommended mods to the track suspension but still need to install some oil shocks. I've got some evader st front shocks laying around, but I'm still looking into a mounting method or bracket design.

I also installed a high torque steering servo and servo saver, steers awesome now....now I need to put shocks and a better linkage in the front and this should be one fun sled.

My red beast is all in pieces now (Yipes!) ready to start the mods. It also had a 9 tooth stock pinion. Did all the others have the heat sink on the motor? My speed out of the box really was not all that slow, maybe they did change some gearing. I don't have a high torque servo for steering, is it really needed or will a stock (S148 do the job.) More work tonight, I'll include photos as I go along. I am thinking about casting a copy of the pinion and redrill it for my bigger motor shaft. No set screw, I wish I could drill a D shaped hole!

Is anyone selling steering, suspension (front / rear), or electric motor hop-ups for the New Bright SkiDoo? I have seen posts from "mckay" indicating he may have parts for sale. I have emailed him, but no response. I want to convert my SkiDoo to Futaba radio, working suspension, improve steering, and better motor / gearing for improved performance. I am looking to save some time and get running faster by buying the parts.

My New Bright conversion continues. Using rcpi's approach (except without the milling machine) I've got the bigger motor with its 14 tooth pinion just about mounted in the old gear case. I still need to make some room in the outside half for the thicker pinion. So when I put this all back together what lubricant should I use on the gears? I could not salvage enough of the lubricant that was in the old gear case.

About the lubricant,

It seems like petroleum base grease does not agree with all plastics. It can deteriorate some of them. Also it seems to rub away very quickly. I have been using a silicon base grease. It is much more adhering to the p
