Can't resurrect this thread too many times. IMO, the Super Sportsters epitomize sport flying better than just about any other plane you can name. The Hogs come close, but the Super Sportsters are better looking. I built all of them at one time or another. The 90-120 was my favorite. So graceful, in everything from stall turns to lomcevaks.

Have you guys seen the new ARF from Great Planes. It is a 82" wing span. Tower has it on their site. I have a 90-1.20 now. I think the 60 size had a better wing loading. At least the one I had. I flew it for years and was one of my favorite planes. Lost it to a mid air. Nothing left to repair.

Thanks a lot, David, you just cost me 300 bucks. Seriously, I hadn't seen this before. What a cool plane. Too bad it's not a kit. First thing I'm going to do is rip off the MK and re-cover it.

What kind of power are you going to use? ST3250 would be nice. A small gasser should pull it around well also.

I'm a big Super Tigre fan, so the G-2300 looks good to me. My SS 90-120 (72" flew great with a Super Tigre .90, and the G-2300 is more than half again as big. OTOH, a lot of guys at my field fly gas, and I've thought about trying it. In any case, I have plenty of time to decide--plane's not available for another month.

Here are the pics I promised of my 20 year old SS60. It is showing its age now and I will recover sometime. I just cannot seem to allow myself the time to take it down and be without it to fly.

Very nice! I also like the gear mounted in the fuse.

Didn't think you could make the Super Sportster any better-looking, but that landing gear is terrific. Really adds a lot of style.

I love the Super Sportster! I had a bad taste in my mouth ever since I heard the Great Planes discontinued this wonderful sport flier. I have been steering away from GP ever since...

Here's my first SS that was killed by a bad switch harness...

And heres its replacement...

I just visited Great Planes' website yesterday, and it shows the .40 size super sportster ARF as discontinued! Better get 'em while you can!

I had to check out to see about the arf being discontinued, and only saw that the original arf is listed as discontinued, not the mkII arf version.

That 40 size looks great. What setup are you running on the mini?
