Dave, there are bulkheads that are glued into the fwd lower fuse and the lower fuse is mounted (glued) to the main fuse along the flang lines. I havent looked real close at the plans yet but I assume you can glass the seam on the inside as well. There is one bulkheads in the main fuse above the lower fuse that kind of ties thing together but thats about it. The lower fuse bulkheads looks well designed an should take allot of abuse so for the most part yes the nose gear is supported mainly by the lower fuse and bulkheads. I havent heard or of any problems

Be careful when you cut the bypass to length, on my first one I cut it to the length specifiec in the instructions and it was a tiny bit short. On my second one I cut it a few mm longer to allow for a more accurate fitting when the pieces are all put together. #2 is being primed as we speak. Just got my PST 300 mounted yesterday. Need do some more sanding, priming, sanding and will be ready for paint in a few more sessions. It's a great flyer that you will really enjoy.

Thanks Stig I will take a look at placement of this former. How Many MM would you suggest? It looks like there is not to much room to play with as the cylinders are already close to the fwd gear door line.

mb

Hello.

It may not be a problem, but I suggest you trial fit the bulkheads, door cylinders and the gear and make sure there is enough room, before glueing the bulkheads permanently. 2 millimeters may do the job.

Well-- I have already cut the bypass bottom and cover per plans but still have thescrap so if its to short I can glass a piece back in. Have not cut the fwd liner yet so will do so more trial fitting to make sure everything is just right. Will also trial fit the bulkheads with the cylinders and gear etc to make sure I have enough clearance for the gear. thanks for the help!

Work continues on the Falcon. Installed the new F4 main bulkhead, new landing gear mounts and new turbine mounts. Nothing unusual here so no pictures however--- as I had worked ahead while waiting for the new F4 I cut the bypass and cap to size using the old dimension that of course are----WRONG After some choice words and @$$ crashing I figure out I could use the old turbine mounts and notch them to fit around the new F4, Fiberglass and ply doublers Then just notched out the bypass and cap to fit around the doublers and Viola, Everything fits as it should. No harm no foul.

Continuing onto the intake and duct work, fitting them into place is not to bad with plenty of room to make adustments. The intake is initially mounted with 5 sockethead screws. Make sure the back two are well drilled as they are alot easier to install and less apt to breakoff like one of mine did during assembly I like doing things twice in case you havent noticed. Like I said plenty of room to make minor adjustments like drilling another mount hole .

I think my plans are some of the first as when it is time to glue in place the intake liner, my instruction do not mention that the aft duct work should stay in place as there will be no way to install it once you have the lower fuse/intake glued and mounted. Plus it doesnt say anything about gluing the joint between the intake liner and the aft duct, hum....

Nothing is glued except the forward intake liner onto the lower fuse. When the forward piece is glued to the fuse bottom you connect all the pieces to get the alignment correct. The big curved piece and the main bypass just fit together. The main bypass will be held in place by a couple of wood screws on the main engine mount to support the tail pipe and the center intake piece. It is kinda confusing but works great.

Tom, you fly yours on a P-120 right?

How would an 18# handle it??

#1 had a Ram 1000 and flew the S..... out of it. Rotate to vertical and go! Most of flight was at 1/2 throttle. #18 would fly it very nicely, just have to get some knots for the vertical. Mine weighed 21# dry so you would have a good thrust to weight ratio. I think PA says it will fly on a 12#er. You will have no problems with a 18er. My #2 has a new PST 1300R

Well-- I never claimed to be a Mensa member-- guess thats why it takes me twice as long to finish a kit ... After standing and looking at the jet for a better part of an hour it occurred to me that the duct work will come out of the hatch area if I remove the bypass and cap! Duh. That way I can get to the nose gear steering, gear door actuator and oh ya, the fuel tanks. Man do I feel like dork.

Been there done that too. It's kinda different but works well. I did a lot of head scratching on my first one too.

Ok--after a couple of rather senior moments this weekend I was able to finish the intake liner install and mounted the intake to the main fuselage with no major problems The biggest challenge of getting good adhesion of the intake liner lip to the lower fuse was kind of a gooey exercise in precision gluing but ended up easier than expected. The trick was to get a good mix of resin and micro balloons that will flow to all the area but not to thin as to leak out thru the seam . PA's extended glue injector gave me a nice looking intake. Getting dangerously close to finishing the fuse and next up is the exhaust pipe and mounting the wings .

Tis frosty here in the Cornhusker State, might as will build a jet!!!!?!

Am really liking this paint scheme. Should show up well with the red tail, yellow stripes down the wings, red canopy frame and the red intake with yellow. Add some Aim 9's to the wing tips and will be ready for the next CAP mission.
