oops -> RE: Walkera Dragonfly 4ch Poll! (1/2/2006 1:05:18 AM)

Hi Twflys, THe clipping of the blades is to increase the main motor RPM so as to improve stabiliy and forward flight capability (The DF4 will fly quite fast with improved rotor head speed) The mod I developed over time for the Version 2 DF4 (thick blades, and has a metal disc under the main gear) is to remove material from the trailing edge of the blades. I presently use 32mm max chord. I've flown a stock DF4 with 32mm clipped blades and flown for over 10 minutes on the standard battery !!!!. Just in hover. Anyway, measure back 32 mm from the leading edge, and mark anything past 32mm. Then remove. The quality of the blades is critical for this mod, so only the latest Walkera blades work well. Honeybee blades are good, but too soft. Old Walkera blades are too thin and brittle. On the older model, you just remove the tips by 1cm, and try again. It works also, but flight time is reduced. Increasing the aspect ratio of the blades is definately the best move. David
