I've made my mind up and I'm putting the ST G-2300 on my new Seagull 1/4 scale Laser 200. I thought about the new Saito 1.25 which I don't think would be enough power and the OS 1.60 which would be to much. I've read a lot about using the Bisson pitts style muffler on the G-2300 and not having enough back pressure and most people are plugging one exhaust tube or pinching one tube off. Does anyone sell a muffler for the G-2300 that has just one exhaust tube and will give the correct amount of back pressure so the engine will run better? I don't like the idea of pinching one tube off as it takes away from the look of the plane. If I was going to use the Bisson Pitts style muffler, what are people using to plug one of the tubes and would it matter which one you plug?

---------------

Find a piece of hardwood dowel that exactly fits the opening of the tube, or is slightly larger. If slightly larger, chuck it in a drill and hold a piece of sandpaper in one hand while turning the dowel slowly with the drill. It doesn't have to be a precise fit, but precise is better. Run a bead of silicone rubber around the inside of the tube and slide the wooden dowel up inside. Let cure. When fully cured (up to a week later), drill two small holes through the tubing and into the piece of dowel. Not all the way through. Then do the same thing on the other side. Find two screws that fit and secure the piece of dowel in place. Voila! A plugged hole. You can't see what's plugging the hole from the outside if you do a clean job. All you will see are two screws, and not both at the same time.

No one wants to admit to using wood to solve an engine problem, but I will. I have no pride at all. <G>

You will be amazed at how long this plug will last. I have some that are nearly thirty years old and they are still working just fine. I did smear silicone glue all over the plug before inserting it though, so there was no bare wood exposed to hot fuel. Good luck.

I just plugged mine with JB Weld, a plug about 1/8 In. thick does fine. I found this gave me a little more back pressure than I needed so I have since drilled it out to a 1/4 In. opening which does the job fine. It is quite easy to drill and carve out if needed to return to the original opening.......RJ

How did you know you had to much back pressure? What were the symptoms?

A few very good options:

Davis Diesel Systems Pitts muffler - Gives adequate back pressure. Very quiet. May rob a few hundreds of RPM. May be too bulky to fit into your cowl.

http://www.davisdieseldevelopment.com/muffler/in_cowl.htm

Turbo Jett muffler - Gives adequate back pressure. Adds about 500 RPM of power. Exhaust note sounds "tuned". May also be too bulky to fit into your cowl. A bit expensive, over half the cost of this engine.

Seagull Laser looks to have a pretty sizeable cowl, so I think the Turbo Jett should definitely fit. As for the Davis, you gotta get the muffler dimension and make template to see if it will fit.

I guess it's all a matter of cut and try, I lost a several hundred RPM with the stack fully plugged so I drilled it out to 3/16" and tried it. I got back a little RPM and still no fuel delivery problems so I drilled it to 1/4" and gained a little more RPM and still no fuel delivery problems. I will probably try 5/16" before I quit experimenting..........RJ

Super Tiger makes a special Pitts style muffler for their engines. Should have good pressure. I have one on my ST3000.

Sean,

The ST 2300 costs $150 and this TurboJett is priced at $120 (minus a nickel).
It is way over half the engine's price... 80% in fact.

Correction: they are now on an introductory offer, for $85 for the 30 cc (1.2-2.0) size. 56.7% only, but still quite expensive, compared to the engine's cost.

Hobbsy The part # is 12522790 and clamps to a short exhaust stack which gives you get flexibilty to twist to get right angle. Mine plane is in storage for the winter ,but if you go to the Super tigre web site and pull up the PDF file for all engine parts you will see it for all big engines. This will fit 2000 - 4500 engines ,plus twins . Mine was like $45

Imagine an exhaust for your car costing 80% of the price of a new engine...

Where did you get $120 from ? Last I checked they were $75

Nothing like the manufacture stepping up the plate and clarifying all confusions.

Think of it this way, ST G2300 w/ Turbo Jett muffler is as powerful a
