This is my first kit. Yesterday I hinged and attached the control surfaces. The hinges are CA type. I couldn't find detail anywhere on the plans or in the instructions on CA'ing the hinges into the plane. Is the process I used good or should I have done this differently?

1. marked slots according to plans
2. cut hinges using GP hinge machine (great tool!)
3. cut and inserted hinges into slots (both sides)
4. placed 2-4 drops of thin CA onto each hinge
5. let CA set for a few seconds, then flexed the hinges up and down.
6. used ordinary staples to pin the hinges into the plane with a drop of CA on each "staple leg" to strengthen.

Checked control throws (max distances) by eyeballing them. Seemed to flex to the required distance.
Cannot understand why the CA process was not included in the kit. Oh well - thank goodness for a great RC forum online!

Appreciate the help.

You're close... most instructions say 6 drops on each side of each hinge. The staples (IMO) is overkill. Some instructions also tell you to cut the slots, then drill a 1/16 hole thru the center of the slot with a high speed drill to help the CA get all the way into the whole hinge. Make sure that the hinge material stays centered in depth by marking the mid point and then putting a pin thru the mark before inserting into the control surfaces. Remove the pin once the surfaces are joined but before gluing.

Your procedure will be fine.

Staples are really not necessary on this plane (I have one). I typically only use 2 drops of thin CA on each side. More seems to be overkill me.

I routinely use CA hinges on all of my racing planes (at speeds over 150 mph) and I have never had a hinge fail.

My preference would be the Sonic Tronic hinges that have a small rectangular channel removed from the center of the hinge. This really helps the CA wick deep within the wing and surface.

Thanks for all the advice. I've glued 'em in and have started covering the plane.
