I have been using these light sticks from Wal-Mart for a few flights now and they are really cool looking but they are kind of big. They are very affordable at 2.50 each and light in weight but I think their size and collective weight is slightly affecting the way my DF flies. I have also found that they are permanently sealed so you can't change the batteries. What kind of crappy design is that?! I'm going to cut mine open to change the batteries when they get weak. What a waste to throw away perfectly good assemblies and LEDs just because the batteries go dead. One other important thing if you get any of these. Make sure that you prevent them from pivoting upward into the travel area of the rotors due to aggressive maneuvers. The stiffener rods will pivot during flight because of the offcenter weight of the light sticks. If this happens the lghtsticks will block the rotors' clearance and the rotor could jam and you know what happens next.......... I will post video of them in use shortly.

Here is another source for custom lighting products that seems to have more components for making your own system. madean, they apparently own VoodooFx or they are their supplier. I found that Jupiter 2 chase light ring for $85.00. It has around 32 LEDs on it. They also sell something called Laser Laces for shoes or whatever. I had seen these a while back but forgot about it. They are only $14.95 for two 36" fiber lines available in 8 colors. As far as price, low power requirements (3 small button cells) and weight, that seems like a great deal for fiber optic lighting. Scroll all the way down the page to see it all, it is unbelievable how many applications they offer!

It's on this page but go to the bottom for a list of links to every component and circuit you could think of.

I just have the standard 5 light kit with the controller and chose my colors and how many of solids or strobes that I wanted. There is only one power cable from DFI so just ask for the multi to 3 pin servo/power adapter cable. I hope you don't want any custom work done because he doesn't do that anymore.

SkyHigh,
Don't forget to mention ElWire from vibelights.com The laser laces are pretty cool, but weight wise they aren't the best option. Check out my new lighting configuration, the LED in the center is an RGB disk configuration diode, the ones on each arm are blue, and the surrounding frame is lime green (ElWire).

Well, I did order a couple of sets of laser laces, blue and white, and they are very light weight and have self contained power. They also have three profiles, solid, single and double strobe. I have two sets on my DF and when the strobe patterns fall out of sync it is rather interesting looking. You also can't beat the $14.95 price for a turn key solution. You really have to be in total darkness to see the full intensity of the light though. I bet that each fiber run with the battery capsule weighs less than the El Wire. I will post pictures of this set up soon. What made you think the laser laces were so heavy?

SkyHigh,
It was an assumption judging by the pictures and the fact that you have two power sources with batteries. ElWire uses a very small dc to ac inverter and the whole kit weighs less than 1.5oz If the laces are indeed lighter than I apologize for misinforming anyone. The great thing about ElWire is the simple fact that you have a continuous bright light that is visible for miles. I haven't seen the laser laces in action so I guess that my information regarding them should be disregarded.

No need to appologize. I have to agree that I was concerned about the weight judging by their product pictures too. I was very glad to find just how light they really were. One of the three sequences is solid continuous light. They are just not as bright as I would want them to be.
