Oh! I have something useful to add, i feel proud to help with this one
Here it is...
Many people have asked how to hook up a Walkera Dragonfly #4 to FMS (Free/Flying Model Simulator). I have personally used these exact steps and it works perfectly although I cannot vouch that it will work with other helicopters (I have heard that it may work with other 4 channel fp's like the Dynam Hughes 300). If you follow these steps with a DF4 TX then you should be ready to use FMS in no time.
First you will need PPJoy (Click Here). (I am expecting you to have FMS and the Walkera DF4 TX already...)
You will need this cord

The circle end of the cord plugs into your DF4 TX, and the square end plugs into your PC's serial port (The one it matches up with).
Now here are the steps to setup PPJoy so it will work with FMS.
Download ppjoy.
When it is downloaded go to the "ppjoy" folder. In there is "setup.exe". Open that and it will install the folder "parallel port joystick".
Then go to control panel and open "parallel port joysticks" which is a "configuration utility for joysticks that plug into the machines parallel port". Open that.
Click "add".
It will open the "configure new controller" window. Then change the "parallel port" drop down from "LPT1" to "virtual joysticks".
Plug in and turn on your transmitter then click "add".
Then ppjoy will go through downloading whatever it needs to and it may take a while.
After that to use your transmitter on fms you need to do this.
Open "ppjoycom" in the "ppjoy" folder and change the "serial protocol" to "zhen hua 5 byte protocol" then turn on (and plug in) your transmitter. You will see the "waiting for stream int..." change to "reading serial stream...".
Then open fms (leave ppjoycom open reading the serial stream) and go to the "controls" tool bar then in that go to "analog controls".
Then change from "no interface" to "joystick interface".
Then click mapping calibration.
Change everything so that the screen looks exactly the same as the picture below (numbers and ticks) and then click "calibrate" and follow the instructions given. (It will ask you to move your sticks around a little in big circles so it can adapt the range, then when they are moving smoothly, click next and it will ask you to center all the sticks, then click finish, then the OK button and you're away flying!)

Hi Kevin..hope you are still around...have tried to follow your
steps to the letter and understand them all, but not working...
what seems to be the problem is that when I start PPJoy with my
Walkera TX on, it is set at Virtual Joy Stick and the Zhen Ha 5
protocol and it says "reading serial bits"....but the Baud,
Data Bits , Parity, and Stop Bits are "grayed out" and there
doesn't seem to be any data actually going through...in FMS
have settings like you state, but FMS can't see my TX for some
reason...I take it we don't need to run Smart Pro Po...any ideas?
...do I need to do "mapping" in the Parallel Port Joy Stick in
Control Panel?...tried that but nothing seems to happen or work
....thanks for any help....John H.

I cannot remeber if this is what is meant to happpen but I think greying out of other parts may be normal, not sure as I haven't used FMS in a while sorry. I will reinstall fms and ppjoy on my pc and see what is going wrong...

Those parts are meant to be grey when virtual joystick is selected. Maybe you are not using a serial port? If you are, then chek your connections and make sure your tx is turned on.

Hi Kevin...thanks for the prompt response and all the hard
work reinstalling FMS....I am using the serial port as the cable
you recommend fits it..also checked in "My Computer" and
found serial port working...its something, as FMs just doesn't
see the VJS when it is runing and with TX on (sure of that)
and PPjoy running...have used PPJoy before with Clear View, but
not on this computer...oh well, may have to buy an Eflite TX
that I know works with FMS..thanks for all your help and cheers
to you in the "Land of Outdoor Adventure"...I hope to visit NZ
sometime...John H.

Very sorry that it hasn't worked, if all has been done then I am not sure why it wouldn't work. Very sorry about that...
EDIT: Maybe you are not using a dragonfly #4 TX or it is a new dragonfly #4 2007 tx model? I can only promise this works with dragonfly #4 2006 tx model.
Glad to help as much as possible

Thanks Seb P
I did have it up there but the pic must have expired or something.
I think I will create a pack that you can download to use.
EDIT: Oh Dear, I can't do that :P, I lost paint from my pc which I use for pictures...
Also that picture needs to be set out like this...
(x means tick the box and a blank means leave unticked.)
Mode 1

Newbie here!

I have a Walkera #4 (Dragonfly) . I charged the batteries up, turned on the remote and then hooked up the battery in the helicopter. I heard a quick, PSSSTT. sound like a air actuator enabled. Anyway, the helicopter LED light blinks red, the remote has full power (in the green), but the helicopter will not respond.

I have made sure to turn on the remote first then hook up the battery in the helicopter. I made sure the Throttle and throttle switch are OFF (in the down position). I have removed and reseated the crystals in both the remote and the helicopter in hopes it was a loose connection and verified all the other connections were secure in the helicopter. Still it will not respond.

The dip switches are set to factory default:

1 - ON
2 - OFF
3 and 4 - ON
5-8 - OFF

Can anyone provide some helpful insight as to what could be the problem or am I screwed!? I would greatly appreciate any other troubleshooting ideas or if I am doing something incorrectly, the manual this thing came with is a joke.

My

Thanks
-Zag
