I've been flying a Raptor 50 for a little over a year and have wanted a small electric heli for a while now. I have flown the Blade CP and was not impressed. I had decided I wanted a T-Rex and last week I had the opportunity to fly a T-Rex V2 and was pretty dissapointed in it. I expected it to be less stable than my Raptor 50, but not to the extent that it was. I managed to get it adjusted enough to hover, but couldn't hold it in a 3' area. I was inside an 18'x30' room so FF was not an option. I was mostly surprised as to how twitchy it was. Far less stable than even the Blade CP I have flown several times.

I fly my Raptor 50 pretty well through aerobatics, inverted, FBF and some 3D.

Is it possible to get the T-Rex to be even close to as stable as my R50? The way the V2 flew I am not sure it wouldbe any fun for me. I love to fly, but have no desire to fight to keep an aircraft stable.

From watching videos and reading lots of threads it seems it should be. The T-Rex V2 I flew had decent equipment and I plan to get even better for it if I get 1. I planned to get a 450XL mechanical mix with gy401/9650, HS56's, CC35, Astro 020 803T and TP 2100's.

Thanks for any info.

Chris, something sounds outta wack. Our trexs are not twitchy. Maybe alittle expo on the one you were flying is in order.

Thanks Hover259 I actually added 10% to it on the tail, and both cyclic. I also turned down the travel to 80% and set the D/R to 80%. This is unusal as I generally prefer the controls as sensative as possible. I have never before used expo. I am going to turn up the expo on my buddies T-Rex to 20% and try again.

Maybe I shouldn't question it then. Like I said I don't expect the T-Rex to be as stable and predictable as my Raptor 50, but somewhere would be nice.

I am not into bling, I just want a heli to fly well. With that said is there any reason in your opinion to get the SE over the standard 450XL?

You will no doubt find any micro very difficult to fly compared to your 50 nitro. I've said it before and i'll say it again now, transitioning from big nitro to micro electric is NOT easy, even for seasoned pilots. The skillset is just very different. The t-rex is quite simply a very agressive helicopter when it comes to cylic. It will probably fly circles around your raptor .50 when it comes to 3D aerobatics, but to achieve that level of control takes a whole lot of practice.

Look at the bright side, if you can learn to fly the t-rex confidently, it'll make you that much better on your raptor 50. With a t-rex, just breathing on the sticks will cause movement

Yeah so I noticed on the first flight. So I turned it down, the LHS had the expo set to negative on the JR radio which made it even more sensative. Then I noticed that with small movements it didn't jump so quick, but rather took a while to respond. I dunno maybe the entire issue was with me and my expectations having fown the 50 size nitro heli, except for the expo set wrong. Flying inside didn't help either. I know I would have felt more comfortable outside with it.

It seems as though if I get a micro heli I will nearly have to learn to fly again, and that it will be harder this time. With the Raptor 50 I had no trouble learning and was into FF on flight 3 and loops and rolls by flight 5.

i hover my 450xl HDE hands off for 2-3 seconds!!.....definately a problem with the bird or over-input.... i actually hovered mine inside the LHS to demonstrate its stability!!....the area was about 6 feet wide...setup is key with these birds...if you can get it just right it should be stable as any!! and it is VERY responsive....so im sure this combined with a mediocre setup would put a Raptor pilot in fits...lol...as far as Micros go...this one is IT! if your interested in one..let me know...i can get you a KILLER deal

I guess I will give a T-Rex a try. I fugred it had to be a setup issue on my buddies. The LHS had set it up and reported to have test flown it. I wonder about the test flight though since it was so unstable. I will work on setting his up again maybe by stripping it down and starting over again.

I would like to get a CC35 ESC since they are made in the USA. Are there any issues I should be aware of this ESC? I have a CC10 on a 3D foamy and have been pleased with it.

Bronco,
Somethings not right with the setup.. I am brand new, never flown before and have had my Trex for less than I week and I can hover it in a very small space. If the wind isnt blowing it will sit in 1 place with only a very slight amount of correction. Granted, this is on low rates but still it works really well for me.

Also, I run the CC35 on my foamies and I run it with reckless abandon... I have had the same one for probably close to 500 flights with no incidents. Its a very nice ESC..

You may want to put some weights on the flybar close to the paddles to tone it down...strangely they came with the T-rex SE and I don't recall them coming with my 450XL. That should tone it down from wild to mild.

Good to hear the CC35 will be okay on a T-Rex.

I will try putting some wheel collars on the flybar and see if thathelps his heli be more stable. It really needs to be for him and even more than me since he'll be moving from the BCX to the T-Rex.

Thanks guys.

WhitBronco, I have a MX400 which I feel flys identical to a T-rex if they are set up the same. I have flown the MX400 for around 4 hours now and in calm air it flys every bit as steady as my Raptor 50. Add wind and all bets are off. The heavy machine is very understandably easier to manage in a 5mph wind. 15 or higher wind hang up the 400 or trex. The only reason one trex flys better than another exactly the same trex, no damage to either, can only be "setup".

I forgot to mention, there are about as many setups as there are pilots. I have three modes on both my R50 and my MX400 and any comparison, both would be in the same mode. I guess everyone would know this but I wanted to make myself clear. A really good setup is tough to set. It takes me sometimes many flights to get a setup the way I want it . If you are trying different batteries, motors, etc, adds to your dilemma.
