I thought i would do a build thread on a 35% edge. My kit should be here tomorrow. I'am just a common RC'er that has built probally 30 to 40 planes over the years. This will only be my secound giant scale plane.

I plan on using a DA 100 (maybe a ZDZ 100?) and 1 8611a on the surfaces and 2 on the rudder, li-ion redundant system and dual rx's.

Any advise or thought's before i start would be appreciated.

Chad

Hey Chad,

Great to see you starting up a thread on the 35% Edge.
I have the same one ordered and it should be shipping this week.
I am sure I will be posting my share of questions and pictures.

Thanks,
Tom

Well I recieved my kit today. The packing was good. And overall the kit is very good. I like the glass work in the cowling because it is light.

I looked over the kit and found that I have no wheel pants, insturment panel, or instructions . But I do have the plans. Maybe this is all that comes with the kit and no instructions. I sure hope not.

I will contact John tomorrow and see if he can e-mail the instructions so i can get started on this baby. I'am sure the left out parts are just an oversight! And they will get the missing parts out to me

Will post up some pics tomorrow also of the kit before i start.

Chad

i just looked through my kit,and i don`t have wheel pants, instructions if any,or the panel, and also the tip of the rudder is crunched like a mushroom,no packing on the end of the box and the rudder slid out of the core, and after being thrown around by u.p.s the rudder got dinged,i guess john`s phone will be ringing. all and all no biggie i know aerotech is good for it! i cant wait to get started.

I have had an Aerotech 35% Edge for about a year and love it. Aerotech built it for me and did a great job. You can see pictures and flying videos on my site www.mikerc.com I know the videos will motivate you to finish it. I am running a DA100 on standard mufflers, Mejlick 28-10 prop, Hitec 5945 2 on each wing, 2 on the rudder, 1 on each elevator. Sullivan Smoke system. I flys like a dream. Good luck and great choice in planes.

Well I couldnt wait on the instructions, I cant believe how easy this plane is going to be to assemble. I figured out how all of the fuse goes together in about 15 min.

I see alot of ply that I would like to make some more lightening holes in. I can tell already this is going to be a good build. And heck I havnt even called John yet and he is already aware of the problem and letting me know it is going to be took care of .

I think I'am going to glue most of this plane up with ZAP CA. I have done several test gluing with multiple glues and CA does as good or better than most!! I will use epoxy where need , such as the landing gear plate and the motor box !!!!!

I'am shooting for 25lbs dry with this plane and I'am pretty sure i can make it Well see in a few weeks ( I hope ) at least by spring.

Here is a few pics , of the packing and what comes with the kit and what I dry fit in about 30 min.

Well i have about 5 hours in the plane so far. The first thing i noticed is that the spelling and grammer in the instructions is horrible. It is so bad it is hard to follow.
The sheeting edges, are crooked as heck, you have to edge cut all the sheeting .

Other than these few things the plane goes together easily. I had to call John today and find out about the landing gear support plate. The instructions and the plans indicate that you need to glue it in seperately when it is already made to the motor box .

I deided on this plane to not glue the sheeting together first but rather just tape up the sheeting and let glue as one piece when i sheeted the foam. I must report that i'am quite pleaseed with the outcome so far. I can see that the glue penatrated the joints of the sheeting. This saves alot of time edge glue the pieces together.

Here is a couple of pics of the progress.

she looks nice ,goes together fast did you soak the turtledeck sheetingin water before you pushed it into the shuck?, how is your cowl, does it have alot of air pockets in the resin that will need to be filled and sanded,my cowl has some pockets the size of a nickel.

The cowl in my kit is the same way....lots of air pockets along the corners. Is your's a two-piece? How is the fit between the two halves? Mine has lots of extra resin along the lip that will need sanded out to get a good fit.

yes it is a two piece , the fit is good but i will have to sand out the ridge of the lap joint to get a good mate between the two half`s , the cowl is nice and lite and the resin is crystel clear it looks cool almost don` want to paint it!
