Anyone know of a manufacture that makes a low profile trailer that will hold 2 40%er's. The wells type seems so tall for models. I would prefer one that the top lifted with gas springs. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Blowin Dirt,

I think I know what you're talking about.

Trailer would be:

1. About 6x8 feet and about 3 or 4 foot high.
2. Have a clamshell-type opening.
3. Must be very light and easy to maneuver around the yard by hand.

A friend bought an older aluminum pop-up travel trailer (cheap) and gutted the insides. He added hinges to make the top open from the side (clamshell). Empty, it weighs about 350 lbs. It's perfect for RC use.

I own an enclosed 6x12 WellsCargo, but it's much too heavy (about 1200 pounds empty) to be used 2 or 3 times a week to cart RC airplanes around. Also, where it is stored, it requires I drive my truck over the lawn. What a hassle !

I have been searching the net for such a trailer with no luck.

I guess I'll have to make a similar trailer.

How about it out there in RC land. Anybody seen anything like my description for sale ??

40% = at least a 10' trailer - 11/22/2002 10:14 PM

Joe Mamma -

The 6X8 would not fit a 40% plane. Most are around 110"+ in length. this means a 10' trailer is a min. and 12' is better.

I have seen an example of where a guy took his trailer and had it cut down. I also know of one guy who put new tires and wheels on his trailer so that it would lower it enough to fit in his garage.

the only other option I know of is to build one yourself.

Remember that you can put the plane in diagonally. Using the pathagorean therum, A squared + B squared = C squared. That means 36+64= C squared, so you can fit a plane up to 10 feet long in a 6 x 8 trailer. Most planes this size also have a removable rudder.

Both Haulmark and Pace will build trailers
at a reduced height on special order.

Thank for the replies.

6x8x3 or 4 feet high is just an average size. My point was to find a trailer that is large, but very light and easy to handle by hand. As I stated, I have a Wells Cargo, but this was designed to handle weight. All we need for "Our" hobby is a trailer to handle bulk.

I understand a junkyard is located about 70 miles southwest of me. They supposedly specialize in camper trailers, pop-ups and motorhomes. Gotta find out exactly where it's at. I'm hoping I can find something that suits my needs.

It would probably be more fun creating my own unique trailer anyways!

I found this neat RC trailer in the Winter '99 issue of IMAA's HighFlight magazine (see pic in my "Gallery"). Unfortunately, they went out of business !

Apparently, no one manufactures anything like this anymore.

This is what I am going to attempt to make !

joemamma, thats the one. I barely have time to keep my planes going. It would take me years to build a trailer. Im supprised Carden or AW dosen't offer something.
