Hello, HiTec support;
I recently bought seven HiTec digitals for my new GP Ultimate. I also ordered two 2300mAh Lipos for a reduntant system set up. Now, I am in the process of putting the radio components in my plane when I heard from a few sides that the HS-5600 deries servos with the sticker V1.03 have a problem when used with a Y-harness and a Futaba radio. They would need to be re-programmed. I have some with this sticker and some with one that says V1.04 and then some without sticker. Do I need to send them in to you guys? Or is this just a rumor? To you think my choice of batteries was the right one for digitals? Thanks for our response.

The 2300 LiPo’s should work fine.

Any and all revision v1.04 Hitec digitals may have issue working with Futaba PCM RX’s. The Futaba RX cannot provide adequate sinking current when two or more Hitec v1.04 digitals are connected to a single channel source (or a wye driven form a single channel). Hitec realized this shortcoming and updated a component in the digital amplifier specifically of revision v1.04 servos. The update is free of charge including return shipping. If you don’t anticipate using a wye and multiple servos driven from a single channel source this problem is not realized. If need be you can eliminate the problem by placing a boosted, isolated or buffered extension or wye in line with the servos or better yet a PowerExpander, PowerBox, Emcotec Servo Interface, i4c Isolator or Power-Buss Pro. Stock was upgraded subsequent to the first release and this problem is no more. You validate weather or not your equipment is suspect by simply coupling two v1.04 servos to a wye and single channel port on a Futaba PCM RX, if it works all is well.

Software revisions are only suspect when utilizing the Hitec Hand-Held Programmer. Any v1.04 digital servo must be programmed with an updated v1.04 programmer. Software/firmware updates do not fix or alleviate the known hardware compatibi9lty problem as mentioned above with Futaba PCM RX’s. Again you must have the v1.04 digital servo component update.

V1.03 equipment is not affected and works without issue.

If nothing else having your servos inspected/upgraded is prudent without any negative side affects.

Thanks, Michael;
Now in plain english: Any of my HS-56XX with the sticker V 1.03 ahould not have any issues. The ones with V 1.04 may have a problem or not. What about the ones with no sticker at all? Do you recommend to send them all in and have them checked. I use four 5625 with Y-harnesses on my ailerons and two (one reversed) on my elevators (also with a Y-harness)

Only way to know is to couple them to a wye and a Futaba PCM RX.

If you have any doubts send them in. It's cheap insurance at the very least.

Michael,

I have the same aircraft and servos as thevirginian. I did not notice any issues with the 5625's when setting up my ailerons until I used the Y's to test the finished wings together. I have two installed aileron servos that obviously need to be updated and one of my elevator servos (yet to be installed) is marked V 1.04 without the X'd garbage can. I telephoned Hitec Service, and they informed me of the upgrade required. I plan on removing the installed servos and sending all the V1.04 servos for update. I am a little frustrated with this, but I am concerned with the fact that you stated that V1.04 servos must be programmed with the V1.04 programmer. During my phone call to Hitec Service I mentioned the fact that I am unable to locate a programmer to purchase, but I have 2 friends that have earlier version programmers. I ask if I would be able to set center and endpoints with the earlier version programmer and the reply was yes. ??????

I purchased these servos late October through my LHS. I prefer supporting the LHS and they have been trying to get a programmer for me. I have been searching other sources myself, and nobody has an idea when they will be available. Do you have any idea when the next batch of V1.04 programmers will be available? I understand that a small shipment has been received, but it looks like they all vanished!

Thanks in advance,

Rex Rutledge

One more last question:
I propably will send them all in, but if I plug them all in my PCM-RX and do not have any problems I should be O.K., correct?
Problem is I have them all pluged together with extensions and shrink tubings over the connectors inside the wings. I hate to
undo everthing agian.

If your servos work installed with a Futaba PCM RX all is well.

The v1.03 programmer will work but does not allow the saved parameter to exist without a slight offset, which can be eliminated with a trial and error. That said its best to have the programmers updated. It's free of charge just send them down to Hitec Service. The updated Programmer will work with all Hitec Digitals.

The Programmers are on back order presently and have been for some time. I don't have confirmed delivery date for new stock.

Mr. Glavin,

I didn't intend on jumping in on another gentleman’s thread, but please allow me to make sure I understand what is needed.

I purchased 7 "NEW" Hitec digital "programmable" servos (with the Futaba J connector) for my aircraft in October. It now appears that at minimum 3 of the 7 will have to be updated to function correctly with my Futaba PCM receiver. I have 2 servos installed that do not work on Y's, but yet the 2 other wing servos function properly and may or may not be V 1.04. The other 2 uninstalled servos are V 1.03 and a V 1.04 without the update symbol. The seventh servo is a 5945 with the symbol. So that is 3 that require update for sure. The servos that are V 1.04 require a programmer with V 1.04. The V 1.04 programmer is not currently available for purchase, with an unknown availability date. So in addition to sending in my "new" servos I need to borrow a friends programmer and send it in with my servos for an update to allow me to program my "programmable" servos correctly!

Did I get it right?

Hey, Rex
That is exactly the same case with my airplane. Some work fine, no problem , some jitter if connected to a Y-harness. I would like to purchase a programmer myself, but I don't like the idea to buy an outdated one.
Michael: What would you do? If a pair of 5625's, connected to a Y-harness seem to work without problem would you still send them in? Where can I buy a programmer with the latest software?

If you have the down time I would send the servos in for the update its all good.

We don't have an expected delivery date for programmers, there has been several delays to date and we've been advised to stand by. I'm not aware of any sitting on the shelf anywhere.

If you can find a used Programmer, updates are free of charge. Nothing wrong with going that route IMO.

Mglavin, I have a programmer bought this past late summer they were all on backorder supposedly awaiting the 1.04 version. It has a sticker 05.5 but no where does it say or display any version.
I was told it was the newest version (1.04) anyway to know for sure? Thanks in advance.

Greg,

Power the Programmer up and observe the display, anything pre v1.04 will display a revision number such as v1.01, v1.02 and v1.03.

I shipped 3 of the 5625 V 1.04 servos to Hitec for the required update on December 30. The servos were received by Hitec on January 4th, and returned to me on January 10. I was honestly frustrated with having to send in new servos, but the response by Hitec was very positive. I will have no reservations purchasing Hitec products in the future.

Now to get an updated programmer.

Thanks,

Rex Rutledge
