I'll chime in here. It's my first post! So hello everyone.

I just purchased a Blade CP yesterday. It's not that the helipcopter is expensive, it's just that any hobby is expensive. So far I have almost $400 into my CP, which incudes the crashkit (unused so far), the upgrade kit with motor, blades, and heatsinks (uninstalled), a Pinnacle Charger and a second battery (purchased today). That's not too bad, considering I spent over $17,000 on my astronomy hobby in the last 4 years. For about the price of a good eyepiece for a telescope, you can pull a collective pitch helicopter out of a box and start flying it right away. I'd say it's a total deal.

I've got 2 batteries worth of time on my CP so far. My crashkit is still unused, but I'm sure it won't take too long before I need it. I'm "flying" in my somewhat tight family room on a hardwood floor. I'm using the E-Flight Training gear. I'm taking my time and not getting bold. On my second battery, I got confident enough to lift it up about 18 inches of the ground, held it for about 5 seconds, then had to set it down because I was drifting a bit over toward the couch. It's raining, or I would have been in the backyard. But so far I've just been spending my time geting the skids off the floor with the training balls still touching and getting used to controlling it.

Take your time. If you are going through a set of rotor blades per hour, then you are exceeding your capabilities and need to slow it down. Take it one step at a time. I realize I'm a newbie to helis, but I have a lot of RC Plane experience. I can't fly a heli either........yet..

Doug

thecheatscalc has it right. I did everything wrong at first and went through blades quickly. Once I slowed down and flew mostly over grass, my use went way down (but did not stop!). Once you get past tail-in hover, I suggest (as others have) trying to fly over grass or snow with a plywood helipad. Snow is the best, you can ram the blade-CP into the ground at high speed with zero damage (as long as you cut throttle). Grass and or snow will pretty much save your blades unless you get a tail strike.

Doug,

Unlike astronomy equipment this heli "eats", meaning as an owner you have to spend continuously and the OEM parts are very overpriced IMHO.

There will be a growing aftermarket now that the initial costs have dropped to the floor.

TV85's and 102's don't eat, Electric R/C aircraft don't each much at all, Harleys eat very little, reef tanks eat some, helis eat alot!

I must say again, with the heli being the least expensive initial investment in the above group, I already see it will be the most costly to maintain.

We're learning to fly very quickly just like we are very careful not to drop Harleys ;~)>

I have a post on the big blade site that I think is on page 63 I wish everyone that is new to this thing (I am too) should read. It is to bad that all of these new Blade owners have to crash so much, then say that all the parts for this ship are expensive. You have to take your time folks. I know it's hard to go back to when you were 1 year old and starting to walk but thats the key BABY STEPS!
